Yes.
You can also go to a hospital in another province if a particular, specialist treatment is not available in your province. |

You can go to any hospital you choose, choose your own family doctor, and ask to see a specialist at any time.
Socialized health care doesn't mean it looks like the HMOs in the States... it just means that getting sick won't bankrupt you and your family. |

Yes it's dependent on location and services. The only way you would get transferred is if they needed a specific doctor on machine they didn't have. |

You can drive yourself to any hospital in the province, they are all run by the same government. If you are going in an ambulance I don't think you get a choice. |

Yes!
I live about 10 minutes away from 1 hospital, and 20 from another and if I had to go for a non-emergency I would drive the extra 10 minutes because wait times are usually lower!
If I was in another city, and was hurt or sick I could walk into any local hospital or clinic to receive treatment. You must have your healthcard on you though, or you will now be charged. (you can receive reimbursment later if you do have a healthcard and forgot it) |

I think there is a limit that's not being addressed here. If your doctor or specialist does not have hospital privileges at a particular hospital, he/she may not be able to practice medicine there, so the choice may have to be made to switch doctors if you want to be seen at a particular hospital. I hope this helps you. |
