Canadian people - tell me your views of Australian guys =D? |
Hey guys! Firstly, I'm Australian (21 yo) and coming in about 12 months for a 2 year working holiday visa. Secondly, I want to make it clear seeings that I'm talking about inter-country relations that I actually love Canadian people and you guys are tops in my mind.
So I just thought I'd ask, so that I'm prepared and have a better idea before i arrive, how do you perceive Australians? I've heard you get the impression from all the loser aussies before me that we drink like crazy etc (very very small percentage in Aus) but if you could tell me your thoughts I'd be really grateful - please be totally honest if you could...
Also, how do Australian guys act when they arrive in your great country? Do they strut around expecting to be loved because of the positive name we have around most of the world? Because I'm definitely not a stuck up person and am not going to go there thinking I'm the best thing since sliced bread just because I'm aussie. If you could let me know that'd be great.
Overall, I'm just hoping you can tell me if I'm going to arrive and be liked/make friends easily etc or hated depending on how previous aussies have behaved before me.
Thanks so much for all your help and congratulations on a good olympic performance from your athletes in Beijing =D |

Well, the fact that you are australian has nothing to do with wether or not you make friends. Canada is a diverse country filled with millions of people from around the world. As a whole, Canada is very open to diverse people and are accepting. I personally get excited at the prospect of meeting new people from another place. I'm sure, if your a nice guy you'll make lots of friends and where you come from will have little to nothing to do with it. Cause if you were a mean guy, your not gonna make many friends wherever you come from. I personally love australians :), as long as they're nice.
hope this has helped

Well, your 'congratulations on a good olympic performance from your athletes in Beijing' was certainly better than 'Canadian athletes are fat and lazy', as I've heard from several Americans. So thanks for that!!
I love Australians though. I have a penpal who lives there, and although we've never met, we are extremely close and she's never given me anything to dislike about Australians.
I'm sure you'll be liked by everyone. I can't think of a reason for us Canadians not to like Australians. And as far as my experience with Australians goes, I wouldn't say the guys strut around or anything like that. I was sitting next to an Australian man once on the train, and he was having a very pleasant conversation with a friend, who was not Australian, but he wasn't trying to stand out or anything, so that's good.
And also, I love Aussie accents! |

To be honest a lot of the people are probably going to think you're British. haha.
But all the Australians that I've met are great. I like them. Plus I love aussie accents. :]
You'll probably be liked... definitely not hated. It all depends on how you act towards people... but from what you wrote you sound like a pretty likable guy. |
