You bet I do. I grew up surrounded by War Vets - my Mother had a nursing home and when Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue's Vets Hospital needed bed space, the ambulatory patients were sent to ours and similar homes. Over the years we had vets from The Boer War, WWI and WWII. One of them who was from Alberta followed me to Calgary when I moved out and I looked after him until he was hospitalized just prior to passing away.
Life was never dull! :o) I had (and took) the opportunity to go to Reunions in London of the Colditz POW. I got to go and see and learn all about our own Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario. I learned about the things and happenings of those wars that are not written about in books. It was a fabulous education; a fabulous adventure! My own Father died 28 years ago still carrying a Nazi bullet in his back. There is a very special spot in my heart for Canada's War Vets - today's vets and those of years gone by.
I hope everyone will get to know a Vet - they are a living encyclopedia of the Wars we have fought and they all deserve our respect and admiration. Not just the living vets, but those who have passed away too. They put their lives on the line for us and to uphold the freedoms we love to have today.
And buy a poppy. How much is as important as the thought - the remembering of the sacrifices - and the basic purpose of poppy funds is to provide immediate assistance to ex- servicemen and women in need.
Buy a Poppy.

I always put at least five bucks in. Small price to pay for vets who risked their lives for our country, and sometimes came home missing arms and legs. Not to mention the ones who didn't come home at all. There are thousands of our people lying in graves all over Europe. No amount of money can make up for that. And yes, I'm wearing one right now.
I always end up buying a couple 'cause it's bit windy in my part of the world. |

"Hi"....I'm surprised that you didn't ask why Canadians wear a poppy and what it means to them especially the older generation !
I don't really see a lot of the younger generation in the Malls etc. wearing them actually and in a way it's sad. It is a "free" country however and up to them.
We don't wave the flag that much in Canada but carry a tremendous amount of patriotism in our hearts that can erupt to the forefront at a seconds notice if need be.
But...to answer your question I usually get a couple of poppys as the little pin keeps coming off my lapel and the poppy is lost and I soon discover this when I get home so I spend 2 or 3 "two-ny's" to remember those brave fallen Canadians that gave the ultimate sacrifice at our behest and on our behalf .( Lest we forget )
Hope that helps ya and that was just a personal opinion ! *S* (Michael C...) |

I try to buy a poppy every year, usually from the veteran that sells them at the mall near me. The poppies get placed on the ceiling in my car sometime after November 11th.
As for how much money I give, I think that is a personal preference as well as based on your economic situation. If you can afford it, you can put more, since this money goes directly to help veterans and veteran services.
I do it to honor my grandfather, who was a mechanic in WWII, and for his brother, who never came home at all. |

Yes, I purchased some for my children, my hubby and myself last week. Since I was getting 6 of them, I threw in a $10...but had I been getting one, I probably would have thrown in a loonie or twoonie. |
