Canadians. Can your television receive American TV signals at home(excluding pay-TV)?

I mean American TV signals which are free of charge.

If yes, which signal can you receive? ABC, CBS or NBC?

BTW, where is your home town in Canada?

thanks

We have a mix of Canadian and American chanels...my basic cable package has about 70 chanels.

I'm in Toronto & we have Buffalo's Fox, ABC, CBS, NBC, TLC, A&E, Discovery, CNN (unfortunately), PBS...the list goes on!

Of course we receive all the US channels. We don't live in caves here, ya know. We even receive US newspapers, and some US radio stations (if we're within range).
Do you receive CBC, CTV or Global? Can you get copies of the Ottawa Citizen, the Toronto Star, the Edmonton Journal, the Vancouver Sun or the Globe and Mail?

magsmum
Without satellite or cable, you would only be able to get American signals if you lived close to the border.

Most of us in along the border can get all three major US networks over the air

--But 90% of us have cable or so it's not really an issue

Do you mean recieve them from an Antena? If so, I don't think so. You'll be lucky to get CBC, Global, TVO, and A-Channel with an antena.

Advice comes from Flesherton, near Collingwood.

I live in Calgary and can't. I think there are only four or five local stations maybe three of them you can pick up clearly with rabbit ears. Most people have cable or satellite and you get American channels.

There are laws about how much Canadian content must be shown on most channels. The way they get away with having American channels on cable is having them stop showing the American stream and show the exact same thing as a Canadian channel at some point in the day. I think specialty channels are exempt.
