Canadians: Do you think U.S is a greatest country ever?

I actually think the US is very restrictive with regards to one's personal freedoms. Even worse than the laws, there is a huge amount of social pressure in the US from states to another to conform to certain behavior.

If i am only canadian, asian or european, i will never go back because i find the system was oppressive, however subtly. Most of my friends who still live where I grew up are up to their ears in debt and work multiple jobs, just to pay for crap insurance's and taxes that they don't need, and then will die of heart disease 2 weeks after they retire.. F*ck that noise & lifestyle in US.
Additional Details
I been done a lot of research and i find out that West Coast in US are much nicer than East! Gosh!

OK! I was just visiting a friend in Ohio (I'm from Ontario) and I realized I could NEVER live in the U.S. You don't even understand how happy I was when I crossed the border back into Canada.

It may just be because I'm used to Canada and the U.S is a little different but some things that bothered me were: The U.S. has stricter laws (which is good and bad), the U.S. highways/interstates are messed up... in Ontraio our highways are quite simple and very easy to figure out. The food I had in the U.S. always tasted funny.. not to mention the MILK! In the U.S they give the cows anitbiotics, hormones and sterioids. We do not do this in Canada and we have higher bacteria standards for our milk and eggs. It's pretty bad when drinking milk will effect your health. Like come on, whats with that? And don't even get me started on the gangs! Yes, western Canada has gangs... but its not the same as the U.S.

I dunno, I won't ramble on but things just work differently. And it's all those little things that matter.

I will take Canada anyday over the U.S.

Why would Canadians think that the usa is the greatest country ever??

My answer is hellllllllllll nooooooooooooooooooo.......lol

We have debt, work multiple jobs, pay taxes ect but we also have mannnnnnnnny wonderful things that the usa does not have....

I'm sorry that you/your friends feel that you are "under social pressure...to conform to certain behaviour" as I don't see that being such a big issue here...most Canadians seem to either ignore the gov't or loathe them...

The u.s is a nice place but it's not as great as the great white north!

I like my own country. But every person will say his or her country is the best. EVERY COUNTRY IS THE BEST!

sorry Nie, but your question doesn't really make sense. that's like asking france if cambodia is the greatest country ever. i'm sorry you didn't like it here in the US, but taxes and laws are kind of the way it works here. i'd rather pay taxes and abide by the speed limit then suffer thru femal circumcision and religious oppression.

US = land of the scared, home of the paranoid. Canada rocks

You should really ask that question to Americans, not Canadians.

We all have an opinion of the USA, some are favourable and some are negative. I imagine it is the same with our American neighbours if you ask them if they think Canada is the best country ever.

If you are asking each person their opinion, they will speak from their experiences or (worse) their preconceptions. You will not get an unbiased view. So the question is unfair.

Without trying to put them down or raise them on a pedestal, I can give you my insight.

I see USA as a great power with a lot of patriotism and a colourful history. I have never seen any other country celebrate their country's heritage year round. Other countries do that on their nations birthdays, or if they win the World Cup, or things of that nature.

There is racism in certain parts of the US, but this is the same as in Canada and other countries.

In both Canada and USA, it is hard to get out of debt once you are in it. The North American culture is that if you can't afford it, just put it on the credit card and pay for it later. Thing is you eventually see that debt get bigger and bigger to a point that the small monkey is now a gorilla you are carrying on your back. The burden becomes too big.

In US, taxes are high, insurance is high, and medical costs are high partially because of many people's desire to bring about frivolous lawsuits for a quick buck. Find a bug in your soup? Don't just throw it away or ask for your money back, but make sure that you claim "personal anguish" and sue for $700,000. Had complications after surgery? Don't let the doctors address that, but instead sue them so that they cannot afford to work without having multi-million dollar malpractice insurance, or have you sign a waiver before they even touch you.

The country you live in is what you make of it. If you promote politeness, goodwill towards others, and common sense, you will have the best country in the world.
