well as opposed to America,
the Canadians are not as easily influenced by the media as Americans are.
Although like Americans, Canadians usually stick to their guns when it comes to being a left wing/right wing thinker. So most people who usually vote liberal will continue to do that and the opposite.
What is significant about this election is the attention that the green party is getting. Elizabeth May's Green Party seems to be not the average Left wing party. Although, she has a lot of socialist goals.
Personally I would love to vote green, but because of how badly Stephen Harper is running the place especially with what he as done to Ontario's economy, I will be voting in Dion this election.
He also has some pretty solid views as far as taxes and post-secondary education is concerned. I also do not believe the conservatives when they say that he is weak etc.
I also don't appreciate how in the last year, almost every day I have had a piece of paper in my mail asking me if I approve of Dion's goal to take away certain conservative promises. Especially considering, they are sent by the conservative party, but that mine, and all other Canadian tax dollars paid for the propaganda. |

I rather expect, given the choices, to end up with a minority of some sort. Not the worst scenario. The various parties keep each other reasonably honest with a minority. A majority with this crowd is a recipe for disaster - an elected dictatorship as none of them knows how to lead and that seems to be the way nonleaders who become leaders go - or if the Conservatives get in, maybe we should start practicing singing The Star Spangled Banner. |

Of course there's a chance. That's what elections are all about. Don't believe everything you see and hear on the media, because it isn't always the full story. For example, look at the fuss with Elizabeth May when the Green Party was denied a seat at the debates. That was a direct result of media direction (and what happened to the notion that media simply reported what was happening but didn't tamper with the results? Ha!) There are a dozen political parties in this election, running candidates in many ridings, but you won't hear a word about any of them because the media doesn't think they are 'important' enough. They may be surprised - this constant media interference is going to backfire one of these days. |

With Dion as their leader ? No chance at all.
Have you noticed that the Liberals TV ads don't show Dion's face, or mention his name ? Same thing with the local Liberal signs, no mention of the Leader?
About the Greens. Should I remind everyone that they have NOT YET elected a single person to Parliament ? Would that be a good reason to not include them in any debates ? I think so. If a party with no elected MP's like the Greens is going to be included, why not the Marxists, or the Rhino party, or the Dopers, as they don't have any elected MP's either.
The Greens are using a train to take their campaign across Canada. The last time that was done, Lester Pearson was the PM. Are they just a little bit behind the times, or what ?
Dion has no chance to win, and Bob Rae and Iggy are both waiting to stab him in the back, and take the leadership from him.. I'm old enough to remember how badly Rae screwed up the economy in Ontario, and Iggy spent 30 years living in the USA, as a prof at Harvard, so what the hell does he know about our country ? He is a great example of an elitist snob.
Harper with a majority and we'll see some changes to get the country thru some hard times. Better him than the weasel from Verdun.

The media has bureid them all with the other partys, and give the election to Haprer and the Nazi Party, he was crowned the king when the election started, and now we are in for 4 years of Marshall law and paranoid PC attitudes and stormtrooper tactics, we will be a 3rd world country until the redneck's learn there lesson, or take over. |

There is always a chance in elections -- and with quite a few days left anything can happen. However, this time around the Liberals are very disorganized, they have proposed a "Green Shift" plan that is extremely difficult to interpret, and has some very heavy tax implications. Most Canadians feel like they are being taxed too much already! In recent days the liberal party has stopped talking about their Green Shift plan, in an attempt to distance themselves from this unpopular policy.
In addition, their leader is a French Canadian, and an academic. Most people in English Canada seem not to have taken a liking to him -- not because he's French, mind you -- but rather he just hasn't 'connected.'
The way things stand now, the Conservatives will likely win, but they probably won't form a majority government. What this means is that they will have to form temporary coalitions with other parties (such as the Liberals) in order to get legislation passed. This type of government is good for the country (because every bill has effective resistance), but at the same time, it opens the possibility for a new election almost every time a piece of government sponsored legislation is defeated.
I hope this answers your question. |

Not likely. Harper still has a lot of support in Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. They have the most seats in Parliament. I predict Harper will win a minority with the NDP as the official opposition party. |
