Liberal
I think that many people don't feel that there is a need to vote. Many people think that their vote doesn't make a difference. Also, if you don't like who you have in the runnings, you might feel like it's a statement to that. Anyways, I will be voting! |

My answer is ABC (Anyone But Conservatives).
I don't know why people won't vote. I wish the government would make it mandatory, like they do in Australia. If you don't vote, you get a fine. This would help to avoid the minority governments we keep getting stuck with. |

I am leaning towards NDP.
*I always vote, as does everyone I know. |

1. Green! All the way. The other parties have proven only that they know how to corrupt power, waste money, and bicker endlessly. Time to give them the boot, and put someone fresh and new, with a sound values-based platform, into the House of Commons.
2. The media shows us the sensational. What's sensational in Canadian politics is: scandal, fighting, name-calling, MP's having extra-marital affairs, etc. etc. Unfortunately, there is truth behind much of what the media shows us, so Canadians become disillusioned. The media does not show the hard work and passion that goes into building a party like the Green Party. If they did, all the disillusioned would find hope, and RUN to the polls to ensure they cast their vote for the Greens! Canadians care deeply about their country, but they have been burned and hurt by lies, about-faces, and back-pedalling from governments that have little vision for the Canadian future.
When it feels like you have a choice between bad and worse, it seems like a good reason to stay at home. With the emergence of the Greens, we may see some of this changing! |

I'm not sure if I'll be voting Liberal or NDP. But I can't stand Stephen Harper, and I don't understand how anyone can get behind the stupid GST cut. It doesn't add up to anything except for people who can afford to purchase items in the thousands and hundreds of thousand dollar range. I'd rather pay that two cents/dollar and have it go toward fixing up the health care system. |

First answer. There is a reason we have a secret ballot, and I will keep that right.
2nd Answer. Many Canadians do not have enough of an understanding of politics to see the difference between the 5 major political parties. So the common cry is they are all the same or it doesn't matter who I vote for (Quebec, Ontario, Alberta) {take your pick} will swing the election.
If we all take a little time to learn about the parties (with an open mind, of course), we will care more about the process.
As my Grandfather used to say vote early and often. |

-People are lazy. Sadly, many people can't be bothered to educate themselves and go vote |

Conservative.
The Liberals have proven to be indifferent towards the West, and they have proven to be a corrupt party only interested in furthering their own power... in my opinion.
That said I'm not really happy with the Conservatives either... we still have the Wheat Board, we still have useless Gun Registry... they haven't tried hard enough to make this country an even playing field.
Since none of the parties really do anything I'd like ... for example an elected and equal senate, abolishment of the wheat board, etc.... I have to choose the one that most closely resembles what I believe in and that is the Conservative Party.
I MAY vote Green becuase I like their policies reguarding tax re-adjustment and incentives for the environment. But it would moreso be a protest vote becuase I'm unhappy with almost everyone.
As far as the NDP... BC tried that once and ask them about it.
As for why alot of Canadians don't vote... I don't think they care. They don't realize the direct effect, and they're too busy doing other things.. it's sad but true.
I think alot of it has to do with our shoddy constituency voting system.... why can't the average Canadian vote for the leader instead of the partY? Why does an MP HAVE to tow party lines as opposed to standing up for their constituents?
Canada's system is about elitist parties struggling for control. We have over-powered politicians and not enough checks and balances. I think that frustrates some people. |

Conservative.
The Liberals want to raise taxes, put me out of work and take my guns away.
People don't vote because they realise that in many cases it does not make a difference. If you vote for anyone but Conservative in Alberta all that means is the party gets $1.75. The turnout was probably low because people that have been conditioned to vote Liberal since childhood were disgusted with the party but not enough to vote Conservative or NDP. |
