Canadians Why Does Your Country Not Support Tackling Climate Change?

Canada was accused as being a country that has not done anything to set targets to reduce their CO2 gas emmissions.

Even the US is doing something, so why not Canada.

Good question. Not just this question posed here but a good question period. We have a government that likes big biz and to hell with social issues for starters, That may change in the new year if the Conservatives fall or if they actually listen to what a majority of Canadians want. I agree in that it does make us look like idiots in this regard. Then again, I'm partially at fault for not voting last federal election. Those of us that didn't all are. I learned a lesson the hard way.

I think it is because the public does not support the sacrifice that would be required to do anything of significance. Even if we did everything we could it would not have any measurable effect on global warming. Here in Ontario we have four coal fired power plants. They are building that many every month in China. Why should we give up ours? I am not going to stop heating my home ( with natural gas) to "stop" global warming. Nor am I going to take the bus to work and turn a 40 minute compute into 2 hours.

MasterPython
What exactly is climate change? Until a few years ago it was global warming. Then scientists announced that the world was getting colder. So now the global warming people expect us to believe that the same thing that was causing the world to get warm is now making it cold.

And meeting the Kyoto Accord levels would involve shutting down pretty much all industry in the whole country. We would need to take the country back to the way it was in 1988, a few million less people and in the middle of a recession.

Human beings have inhabited the Earth for a mere 'blip' in terms of the Earth's age, and we seem to think that WE know how the earth is SUPPOSED to behave? Puh-lease.
Now, the "Climate Change Militia" won't like this, but the following is only a statement of fact:
The same scientists that one day told us penicillin is safe for you, then told us decades later that it is bad for you, cannot collectively agree that climate change is even occurring. Just because you had a record warm or cold day, or record warm or cold year, month etc just tells you that it is a record that has stood "since record keeping began" not since the "Earth began". The dustbowl of the 1930's was pretty dramatic and we haven't seen anything like it since. And that happened when there were far fewer humans, and far fewer emissions.

Gene D
Hopefully it's because we're smart enough to realize global warming is NOT primarily caused by human activities. Seriouly, just google "Global warming termites" and you'll see termites emit more CO2 than humans.

Do some research and stop the lies, people.

Our government is kind of on strike at the moment and we have more pressing matters at hand. I can assure though, when our government cools down, we will live up to Kyoto standards.

Jane Marple
The US? I beg your pardon but the Republican 'who've been in power for 8 years' do not believe the global warming is caused by mankind and therefore they should not interfere! All Canadians do believe we, the human kind, is responsible for the destruction of our eco-system and we odd to do something about it. Harper is a Bush in disguise and his days in power are counted.

The US did not sign the Kyoto agreement I remind you and Canada did.
