Canadians: Would you like for your country to become part of the USA? Wouldn't that be neat?

Dr. Know
Better idea: Let's have NY, Massachusetts and California join us.

tigerlily01ca
Why in the world would we want that?
Why don't you become part of Canada instead? It amuses me that Americans feel Canadians should become part of you, rather than you giving up your cultures to become part of us.
Canada has it's own culture and traditions and contrary to what you may think, we do not wish to be Americans. While we enjoy visiting the U.S. and enjoy your cultures and traditions, we are different and unique to you. Not better, not worse, just different. Just as any other country would be. We are a lot alike in that we have the same tastes in popular culture and entertainment for the most part, but we do have very distinct differences.
Canada is part of the British Commonwealth and therefore is under British rule. Which means, the Queen of England is the head of our country. It means that all Canadians are by extension, British subjects and are afforded rights and privileges that go with that distinction.
No, it wouldn't be neat to become assimilated into one big country, whether it was called America or Canada. Lets just remain friends and celebrate our differences.

That would be horrible. No offence, were are better off alone. Its not you its US.

misen55
How about USA becoming a canadian province? That would be nice!

ken
no, bush sucks

soaplady99ca
Ummm... no thanks. I'm fond of our peace loving, non-litigous, free health care environment. Scenery's good, too.

I am an American, but I can well imagine an average Canadian's response: It would be a definite "NO". Why would they want to?

Theirs is an independent country and they like their country. Those that don't, move here.

Dream on... Canada should stay seperate and be proud.

Laur
Not really i dont see why that would be good...
Its fine as it is and should stay like that

Canadians are better than Americans.

Professor Jelly Tot
Uhhh no. I don't think that it would be "Neat" at all. You have a great country, but you out number us X10. We have enough trouble establishing our own identity as it is.

curious cat
hahahahaha....nope definitely not.

Bella Swan
No.

No thank you! That is exactly why my ancestors moved up here. They knew a good thing when they saw it.

You get the idea? :) Americans as individuals can be great people.. but as a nation... oh it gives me the willies to even think about it...

Ask again in ten years or so when the memories of Bush start to fade...

I'm an American and I don't even want to be part of the USA. I do wish however that there were closer relations between us. I view Canada as our 'sister' country. I work with three Canadians and they are lots of fun (only a small bit is at their expense...). No, Canadians, remain who you are and be proud.

krickee
No i wouldnt. Not because I dont like americans but because I like the way our country is. I like that our medical is cheap and every person in canada had a right to use it. I wouldnt want bush running my country. I am quite happy having the states to visit, but I wouldnt want to live there.

RottenDog
No.

US laws are too restrictive on things like strip clubs and gambling.

sdc_99
Um....no.

Yes. I think it would be great. We could get rid of so many redundant levels of government and have much less of a tax burden.

Consider the fact that our population is roughly that of California and we probably have 3 times as many politicians. It's just not funny.

But I think the american government would have a really hard time appeasing the Natives as well as Quebec. I don't think it would fly in Quebec. You would have to accept french as an official language in the United States.

Can you imagine doing that? Any citizen would demand that when they contact the government in any form, the government office would be obliged to provide that service in french. Who are you going to find that speaks french in Babbs, Montana?

Capri
Why not US become a part of Canada on one condition with out uncle BUSH

You're not planning on getting a lot of positive response with this question are you?

No, as an American Canadaphile, I don't want the U.S. to merge with them. I like Canada just the way it is -- exotic and foreign ;-)

And there are certain odd Canadianisms that I don't want to pay taxes for, like their:

- First Nations greed (y'all ran out of smallpox blankets eh?)
- propping up the province of Québec (good old Federalism!)
- highways (frost heave means resurfacing every 2 years)
- universal health care (free, but you'll wait 6 months to see a specialist)
- bilingual signage (there's only half the cereal box you can read!)
- CBC (also known as the Communist Broadcasting Company)

Actually, I love Canada. I'm planning to live there and am marrying a Canadian. But I don't see the two countries getting an engagement anytime soon.

Masiosare
Definitely it should!!

United we stand !! The U.S. is a great country, Canada also, if canadian provinces become U.S. states taxes will be lower, and everybody will speak english, It would lead to be the greatest country in the world!!!, Canadians would be able to live in such wonderful places like New York or California!!!

I support this, hopefully one day Canada and U.S. will be united, that probably wouldn't happen, but Mexico, Canada and USA can do something like the American Union, where everybody can live in any country, just like Europe!!

americandog02
Yes I think the canadiens would love it. You know what lets start the whole imperialism thing again. Not only can the US claim Canada but while we are at it let's claim Germany, and France. And even a little piece of russia and China. I mean the citizens wouldnt care and who needs rulers when you have the USA as The strongest nation in hte world.
