true true, canada does like to copy AMERICA in every sense of the word copy....they steal our fashion, they steal our tv shows, they steal political ideas, they steal pretty much everything known to man....and that is the main problem with canada...they are not free thinkers...they rely on everybody else...canada is the definition of co-dependent....
heck why do you see so many canadians sewing AMERICAN flags on their backpacks when they travel abroad?

We don't have an Independence Day. It's called Canada Day, it's a day to celebrate the country, not some sort of supposed freedom.

The US Independance Day is on the same week as the Independence day of Burundi, Rwanda, Belarus, Algeria, Cape Verde, Venezuela, Malawi, the Bahamas, Mongolia and the Solomon Islands.

And in the same month as the Independence Day of France, French Guiana, French Polynesia, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Mayotte, New Caledonia, Reunion, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Wallis and Futuna, Colombia, Egypt, Liberia, Maldives, Peru, and Vanuatu. Who copied who? And who cares?

Maybe we're just celebrating the fact that we're independent from the US.

I thought all countries had a national day... but they probably just copied the idea from those brilliant Americans.

well as a Canadian i will tell you we do not have a holiday called independence day which is the 4 th of July our holiday is Canada day on July 1 as for the rest of the American holidays listed we don't have any of them either but we should start because we all could use a few more paid long weekends

It's all a conspiracy by us canucks to make Americans feel at home so we can continue to steal your jobs and resources.

The Mexicans celebrate in May and look how much grief you give them...putting up a wall...shoot on sight...etc. We figured if we make it look like USA you will leave us alone.

Any way, Canadians, ignore Ace, Biffnasty and Emmanual, the other idiot who just want to inflame things. The more people argue with them the more they will continue.

Ok, first of all, I've never heard of a single Canadian sewing an AMERICAN flag on their backpack. That is just absurd.
And isn't it inevitable that two countries bordering each other and sharing a language will end up being similar???? We just naturally share things, such as TV shows and music. Sure, there are way more American shows that we watch here in Canada, but that's only because our population is so small (30 million). For a country with such a small population, I think we have some amazing contributions to the entertainment industry.
All the Americans who are so intent on bashing Canada should really take a step back, because I really don't think you know what you are talking about and you are being unbelievably condescending. Due to the geography of our country (that is, the majority of our resident living in southern Canada, adjacent to the U.S. border), I think it's safe to assume that we know way more about the United States than Americans will EVER know about us. And it doesn't appear that they know much at all! So they should keep their "opinions" to themselves until they have a better knowledge of the subject matter.

It's our birthday. If you look around, EVERY Country has a birthday. We aren't copying you. We have it when we have it, because it's when our birthday is. Your complaint about it being 1 in 365 based on it being within a week doesn't make sense. Within a week, that means week before or week after, so with 52 weeks in a year, you are down to 50. And I have a feeling if we had it 2 weeks before you, you'd still complain about copying.

Finally, why did Americans copy Canadians for Thanksgiving? We celebrated it hundreds of years before you did, then you copied. Then we passed legislation and you again copied.

Then YOU went and copied US for President day. We had a holiday for the Queen's Birthday, you copied it for the President. We moved it to a Monday, you again copied and moved yours to a Monday.

Talk about being funny guys. Why do Americans copy so much then claim to be the original? Why do Americans not know anything about any other country than themselves? Why do Americans always claim to be first and best?

good question, but honestly it's our governments desision of what holiday we have and stuff. for example: we used to have easter in march, now it's in april.
