It was +3C today, that would be about 36F. But its been around +10C for the past week here in the interior of BC, that would be about 50F so its not bad. Snow is melting quickly, I have had the doors open for most days. Pretty much typical for this area in the winter.
Toronto is being hit bad by that Alberta Clipper |

Yeah, it's quite a bit colder here in Western Canada than it is in the balmy United States Midwest, but that's no big deal.
Here's the trick: be prepared for the weather and you'll be fine.
When it was-35c yesterday here in Regina, I went out for a noon-hour walk of about 40 minutes, me and my iPod, and was just fine because I was dressed for the weather: parka, gloves, toque and boots. Really, it's no big deal if you spend more than five minutes preparing for. Just about everybody in Canada plugs in the block heater and their cars start just fine.
Cold weather -- what's the big deal??? |

Oh yeah, but it also depends where right?
ON the West Coast they never really get that cold (once in a blue moon).
But where I live in Alberta just East of the rockies it gets brutally cold. Before Christmas it was -40 just to give you an idea. BUT we also get Chinooks out here that warm everything up, so right now it's about 40 F as opposed to -40 F. So yeah... it's warmer in my part of the country than the Midwestern US right now (probably also has alot to do with the flow of the Jet Stream that is chilling things out East where you are).
The weather the Northern Plains get is pretty much identicle to the weather we get in Southern Alberta, so that should explain the weather here for you. |

Minus 15? Thats light jacket weather where I am. It is currently 10 am, and -32 here in North Bay, Ontario, on this beautiful, sunny, Friday morning. I have a Block Heater and a Battery blanket, so my car always starts in the winter. |

I am in Calgary, Alberta, and it is currently 9°C (48°F) and it is expected to be sunny today. We did have a fair bit of snow over the last few weeks and some frigid temperatures, so we're due for this! My sister in Illinois is not loving it there right now either - I think she's having about the same weather as you are :P |

I'm about an hour out of Vancouver and it is cold here. Everything has a layer of frost on it. All the snow melted here, but if you go one town over(towards vancouver) there is at least a foot. |

I live in Calgary Alberta and we've had a long run of -30 - 45 degrees Celsius (including windchill) and it hasn't even hit february yet, which means we will definitely get more.
today was actually pretty nice, it reached a high of 5 a low of -4 and was sunny. It was warm enough for snow to be melting.
The fact that your car wouldn't start for a second means generally nothing, because lots of times in winter in Calgary cars will be running and all of a sudden it will stall just because of the cold weather. Before its running it might not even start for a couple of days.
Its a general rule that if you want the frost mostly off your windshield then you'll have to warm up your car for about 20 minutes, and you'll still have to scrape it off of the windows on the doors, the mirrors, and the rear window.
So basically Canada = Queen of Cold. |

it's -15 F in southern Ontario right now |

-28 right now, and wind chill below -40. Skin exposure warnings in effect - bundle up or be frostbitten. This weekend I'm supposed to be at a skating party, a dozen kids out on the rink and maybe tobogganing. Uuuuuurgh! :-)
Edit: Headline: Flooded power station in Toronto cuts electricity to about 22,000 customers. Must be REALLY cold for them just now. |
