Canadians please help me?

My brother in law is getting married to a Canadian girl. I am in charge of decorating, a bridal shower, and desserts/finger food for the reception.
I would love to have some things that are Canadian. She is from Ontario. Can you please give me any ideas, web sites, recipes or anything that would help?

Nanaimo bars and butter tarts (Google for them). Ontario produces a lot of cheese, so old Cheddar (it must be orange) and Oka would be suitable.

Red and white decor, with red maple leaves, and Ontario's provincial flower is the white trillium.

You can try somthing made with pacific smoked salmon, maple syrup, apple cider, or Niagara peninsula wines.

For example, you can make an appetizer with Breton crackers, smoked salmon, and canadian cheese. Or a Bruschetta with the smoked salmon on top of the tomato.

Desserts can be some sort of Creme Caramel or Creme Brulee dish made with real maple syrup, or even a Pouding Chomeur, which is basically a heavy white cake covered in a thickened maple syrup sauce. Another one more from BC but still eaten across Canada is Nanaimo Bars - dark chocolate coconut squares covering a soft white or yellow cream filling that are sickeningly sweet!

There are some good dessert wines made in the Niagara and Western Quebec region which may go well with any dessert dish you decide to make.

Toss in a few maple leaves for her then in the decor. The food part is easy. We eat food from other cultures. She may have a cultural background you might need to consider (ie Italian, French etc). We are particular about our beer and having it cold. And not every Canadian loves dill pickles. Most men I know would never eat them. However, most women I know love them. Go figure.

Your questions is a good one there a few things that comes up to mind but of course its a matter of taste for your brother in law so here is a link that might be fun to check.

Joyce is always there with some ideas :)

hey i just got married last Saturday to my husband who is a Canadian. The theme was Oriental but we would also put in some Canadian "ideas" in it.
1) The figurine on the cake was an inuit couple.
2) Our wedding favor is a heart shape rice krispie in a takeout box
3) The food are mainly finger food like sandwiches, cheese & crackers, pasta & potato salad, nanaimo & tiger bars

You can get most of the desserts from M&M ;)

I would suggest Crepes with Nutella or Maple Syrup or Strawberries and Whip Cream. Finger food, some Canadian Cheese, Dill Pickles ( must be garlic, never sweet), and some nice smoked meat. We'll pretty much eat anything.

There are some websites that can help you out in the 'food department.'

My husband (a Canadian) says that its the same as American. But I heard that no Canadian can resist a good dill pickle. Don't ask me why? But they have dill pickle chips, dill pickle popcorn (to me disgusting, I tried it), but apparently according to the radio, they like dill pickles.

Anyway, best wishes to your brother and his wife-to-be.

From another Canadian/American happily married couple.

Canada doesn't have much in the line of Canadian Cusine per say...any Canadian dishes that I can think of are not really appropriate for what you are looking for,so seriously american dishes are more than okay, I'm sure we eat it here too.

There really is no "Canadian" Food. It's pretty much the same as in America. Maybe, she'd like some poutine, I dunno.
