Canadians - this one's for you?

What do you think of the U.S.? Not politcally, but when it comes to travel, do you consider us to be part of your backyard? I mean, do you go to Florida for Spring Break? Do you go to Vegas? The Grand Canyon?

I'm from Rochester N.Y. and have been to Niagara Falls a billion times, Toronto a few times, St. Catherines for hockey games, and never really thought much of it - going to a different country and all. I guess I never really considered it another country, except at the border :(

Non-politicaly speaking, your country has many, many things to see and experience. If politicians from any country, start serving the people again, and not their own self-interests, then there would be far more beautiful countries, to visit. Politicians make war, not the people. They only get sent.
Let's all enjoy each other's country for its natural beauty.

as a canadian i have always crossed the border to visit extended family in upstate ny for as long as i can remember. now living on the east coast i enjoy going to maine and love the airline to bangor. i too until recently have never considered it a different country or a big deal....but to have to have a passport,in the summer, to drive somewhere i have always gone, that is a hard thing to deal with

I've used to live in the US though I'm a Canadian citizen. As a current university student with no car I rarely get to travel and my parents never travelled much largely due to financial reasons. But I've wanted to travel to the US every time I can, mostly because I've lived in southern Ontario for too long and feel very bored of this place. Outside of one trip to Buffalo/Niagara I haven't been in the US for a few years. I've wanted to perhaps take a Greyhound to New York, Chicago, or another major city within a day's range, but it's hard to find the time. I think I'm just going to wait until I graduate and move out. But I'm more amazed at the differences, though subtle, across the border. It does feel like a different country, just like how the Maritimes feel like a different country from Ontario (and Quebec of course).

When I still lived in Canada, my family would cross the boarder into Minnesota a lot. We had family in Wisconsin we'd visit, and we were closer to an American town to do our grocery shopping. It got a little complicated when we ordered pizza though. As far as vacations when we'd go to Yellowstone, and some of the mid western cities like Chicago, Duluth, etc to see aquariums and museums and such. I remember going to a Frank Lloyd Wright house in Chicago once. We didn't really think anything of it and though we knew we were in another country, it never felt like it, except for some of the accents.

I have alot of family in the Boston area and as its a relative short drive(10 hours) we go regularly also to Maine to shop or weeend trips. Becouse of the cheap airfares we also fly out of Boston when going elsewhere. I really see little major difference between the 2 countries.

It's fun to visit down south but I do think of it as a seperate country since we need passports to fly there.

I love Texas and New Mexico. Those are my favorite places.

Most Canadians I know ...being one myself even though I've never been to the States...like to go to Florida and California to both Disneyland and Disneyworld at least once. They go to Vegas and Arizona and my mom and dad vacationed in Kentucky once to go see the Kentucky Derby.it depends on who they are and what they've already seen before. But for the most part Nevada is the place to go for many.
