canada is a great place to live but we all face the same day to day struggles and issues that americans have./ job security, mortgages, credit cards. Pros are the universal healthcare and more generous social programs keep the rich a little poorer and the poor a little richer than down there perhaps. That said, our big cities have homeless people as well
Most canadians live in the south of country where the climate is similar to northern US, like new york/michigan type cold. The west coast is milder and we get lots of rain in the winter but not much snow. Vancouver is right on the ocean with mountains all around so its a great place to do stuff outside. Northern Canada, like Yukon and Nunavut get very cold in winter down to -40 or -50 F.
We do temperatures in celsisus, roads are in kilometers per hour and we buy things by the kilo (use metrice)
More simialrities than differences; as the border sign between Washington and BC says "born of a common mother"

Canada is a great place to live .We have some of the same issues as the USA. There is crime but not too bad. There is more crime in the major cities but on the whole Canada is a pretty safe place to live, Canada has some beautiful scenery. It get pretty cold right now it is about -16C or 4F in central Ontario. |

Canada...is...fricking...amazing. Depending on where you live the weather and tempurature changes alot. In B.C is rains alot which makes it very clean and nice. It's really nice in Vancouver. In Ottawa it can get really cold or really hot...it snows and snow is freaking amazing. |

What alot of Americans and Europeans just have the most difficult time comprehending.... is that Canada is extremely diverse in people, geography, politics, etc. So I could tell you the pros and cons of where I live, but it wouldn't really do the country justice, because I only live in ONE region.
So.. ya, you're right, you could do research about Canada... at least do research on all of our provinces and territories so you can begin to grasp how diverse this country is.
I live in Alberta. I live on the Great Plains bordering the Rocky Mountains. It's alot like Montana except Alberta is much wealthier and has more population than Montana. In this province it gets cold in the winter (it's about -20 F right now). But it gets very hot in the summer (reaching 100 F in the summer). On the Plains you get extremes of both. You also get Chinooks in the winter, they warm things up (google that).
Alberta has job opportunities I have never seen anywhere I've been in Canada or the USA. Even as the economy is sinking, there are still jobs here. However, the lower the price of oil gets (that's our biggest industry), the lower the opportunity.
AS I said, I can only compare Alberta to Montana because that's our closest neighbour and they most resemble us. Alberta is way better than Montana in job opportunities, amenities, size, and nature. Montana is like a poorer, smaller version of Alberta.
But as I say that.... can I really compare a place like this to NY or Cali? No, it's completely different.
You really need to do more research. |

Yea i'd say its better than the US.
We have universal health care, that may not be perfect in its own right but that does pretty well considering our limited population compared to the size of our country (and where most of us live in our country).
I like it very much here.
Some of the Pro's
-Universal Healthcare
-More than two federal political parties with any power or voice
-Unique history with a proud people
-Multicultural
-Taxes are reasonable
-Most places are fairly safe during the day.
-Gun violence in our major cities is still much better than the US.
Cons
-Our current federal government has no plans to take serious action against climate change, which makes us as a people look bad (they also just prorogued our parliament because it was going to overthrow them essentially).
-We are so big that it is difficult to provide services efficiently on a national basis, especially when federal services have to be legally provided in English and French across the country.
-We have this annoying pet of a province called Quebec who is never happy with how much our government is giving them. |

I lived in many places in Canada but let me tell you about my home Province Québec. My province is the only French province. We have a very diversified economy and many natural resources. We have forests, lakes, seaways, mountains, fields of corn and potatoes. We have 1 major city of 4 million people. Montreal is known internationally for it's theaters, festivals, restaurants, concerts, historical buildings and for its very diversified population from all around the world. We have extremely liberal people, we love to party, to socialize and we love to love! Every day you'll come across beautiful interracial couples, couples of same sex, people with turban and vales and they're all accepted and respected. Crime is very low here, we're 4 million with only 25 murder a year. |

canada is awesome! i've lived here my whole life. where i live we get alot of snow in the winter ( we have about 10 days of snow days -- no school -- a year) and we have snow from november --> april sometimes even. it sometimes gets down to -40 with the wind chill!!!
but some really great things is that in the summer, its really hot just like temperatures in the u.s.a. it gets up to +25-->+30.
plus we dont have to pay AT ALL for any medical conditions or anything! its awesome. we have really good hockey, and the mountains here are amazing. we have really good bands and singers (avril lavigne, 3 doors down, finger eleven, nickelback, theory of a deadman, simple plan, sum 41, and hedley! ) the drinking age is 18 haha i guess you can decide if thats a con or pro. some cons are the gas prices, and some people may think the weather is too cold. but you get used to it, there are alot of great things to do in the snow!!! =D
hope this helps!! |

Canada is slightly bigger than the USA. The climate varies allot. BC is like Washington State. Manitoba is like North Dakota. Ontario is like upper New York state or Michigan. New Brunswick is like Maine.
The murder rate is far lower here. Chicago might have 400-500 murders per year compared to 80 in Toronto. Taxes are higher here but you get much more for your money such as government paid health care.Is it better than the US? That depends on the situation and values of each person. |
|

|
K T, you must be quite young because anyone much older than about 15 knows that we do pay for health care. We pay through the taxes that are levied against us; it is only that we do not pay out of pocket to see a doctor for medically necessary procedures.
The drinking age is only 18 in some places. In other places like Ontario, for instance, the drinking age is 19. |

Today it's -5 in toronto. I live in Mississauga, about 20-30 minutes drive from Toronto. I find where i live to be so freakin boring and slow. So if you like a relaxed atmosphere, visit this area and the other suburban neighboring areas. Toronto is cosmopolitan and a much better place to visit and experience. Very cultured and people seem more educated there. Montreal has excellent night life and lots of galleries and people are more on the artsy side. Can be rude though since they speak mostly french and have a difficult time communicating with english speaking people (well, that was my own experience and cant speak for all).
Generally, i guess it is a good place to live depending where you are coming from. Most people who moved here, came for a better life than what their country had to offer. They are able to buy a house and car thru savings. It seems easier to buy those things here than in, lets say Asia for one. Personally, i dont like Canada too much. Well, this part at least. Its too suburban and slow despite what they say about it being fast paced. Not so. Vancouver is much nicer and trendier. Real estate is more expensive so you do have better buildings/houses. It also doesnt snow there but rains alot. |
