Flying would actually be cheaper, the train is a lot more than a plane now, sadly. A bus? Through the Southern USA, shuddering at that thought, seems like a nightmare to me. |

Hitchhike. Or Fly. It would take forever on the bus.
Unless you can find someone that is driving down and has extra room. Might be hard to find someone and trust them enough to sit in a car for days on end. |

The cheapest way would be to walk or ride a bike. |

Well, as you saw by the responses you are getting, if all you care about is the cost, then whether they are serious or not, they are right. Walking from Canada to Mexico would be the cheapest, as it is free. However, it certainly is not practical.
So you should evaluate the methods that I think people might consider:
1) Driving - You can drive from Canada, crossing the USA from north to south, and then enter Mexico. That is still quite time consuming and puts a lot of wear and tear on the car you use. Many car rental agencies will not allow the car to leave the country of its ownership so don't expect to use someplace like Hertz. You could always take the bus (Greyhound), but you have to figure out the routes that would get you there.
2) Train - There are Amtrak passenger trains that will take you from certain Canadian cities to the USA. You would then find the right train service that gets you across the US/Mexico border, or one that gets you close so you can bus it the rest of the way.
3) Boat - Cruise ships may leave certain cities (such as Vancouver, Montreal, or Halifax) and take you to various Mexican resorts, such as Acapulco, Vera Cruz, or Cancun.
4) Plane - Air Transat offers periodic charter flights down to various Mexican cities. Air Canada, United, and other major carriers offer daily flights to certain cities in Mexico too.
So the big question is how much TIME do you have?
If you don't care how long it takes you to get there, then a bus trip is probably the cheapest, but will take several days.
Driving yourself will take less time, but you will have to pay for all that gas, meals, and lodging overnight for at least 2-3 days.
Planes may be more expensive, but does get you there within a day. A cruise is probably the most expensive way, but also the most relaxing. |

DO a walk for charity. It will be cheap and you could earn a shedload of cash for a nominated charity.
I know, not really what you're looking for... |

Air Transat charters offer pretty good deals to Mexico. You will be further ahead if you book an all inclusive which includes your flight, accommodation, meals and drink. Much better deal than paying for everything separately. |
