Clueless about winter clothes. What will I need?

I will be in Quebec for a month this January or February. I am from Hawaii so I'm used to a tropical climate and I get cold easily. What will I need? Winter jacket? Boots for outdoor? Warm boots for indoor? A detailed list of everything I need will be greatly appreciated as I have no clue whatsoever. I have to make sure I pack/bring everything I need or else I just might freeze to death. Thank you!

Bring enough warm clothes [sweaters, wool slacks] to get you through 2-3 days. Big as much cash as you are comfortable with, also credit cards and/or traveler's checks.

Plan on buying the required clothes locally in Quebec. By the time that you get there, arctic-level gloves, silk longjohns and Helly-Hansen ski outfits will be on sale. You will have a better understanding of the wisdom of "Dress in layers" and more of a feel for outside vs inside temperatures. Buy Chapstick and a warm hat that covers your ears if you can find it before you leave because your ears, lips and nose will be the first casualties when you step off the plane.

Do the research before you leave so that you have the number of a local crisis intervention center. I am fairly confident that the phrases "Are you crazy?" or "What were you thinking?" will occur to you frequently enough so that it will help to know .that there is someone you can talk to.

Don't get me wrong, Quebec is a lovely place and the people are charming and helpful, but there are reasons that you won't see any palm trees there.

You will need very warm clothes. You should have warm thick socks, warm pants (long underwear underneath is needed), sweaters, fleece is a warm material that works great if you want to wear less layers. You will need a warm winter coat. Something lined on the inside with a hood. You will also need, a few pairs of warm gloves, waterproof boots that are lined on the inside, a scarf, a ski mask would definitely be a good thing to get, ear muffs. Make sure your extremities are covered well. They get frost bite first in the cold weather.

No cotton clothes! Find wool or synthetics....these will keep you warm!

wow...climate shock or what.....the key to dressing in winter is layering, start with thermal underwear, then a t shirt, sweater, coat,,that way when u warm up u can remove layers, also when u go indoors u won't over heat, get thermal socks snd good insulated boots (not steel toe), gloves and a hat...when u dress properly it's enjoyable, I do alot of winter hiking with snowshoes and I never get cold...note: Quebec gets ALOT of snow...

You will need a good winter coat for outdoors. Boots are a strong recommendation if you don't want to get your socks wet. We don't wear boots indoors, thank you, it messes the floors up. A toque or other warm hat for outdoors is a good idea. If you want to keep your hands warm, bring gloves. Not that any actually work; I live in Alberta, and I was wearing my brand-new gloves while shovelling snow, and I had to go inside for a few minutes so my hands could get some feeling again. Also, since you are going to Quebec, some knowledge of French is a good idea.

AHA good luck, its about minus 13 degrees celsius, so about 8 degrees fahrenheit. Its absolutly beautiful though, if your not used to the cold it might have been an idea to come here during the summer where it could get up to about 86-90 degrees fahrenheit. Best clothes for winter would have to be.
3 long sleeve shirts
Thermal clothes top and bottem.( Underarmor)
1 short sleeve over them
track suit top
hoody over the track suit top
A warm jack
a good pair of gloves...leather makes life easier
track suit bottem over the thermal underwear
pants over the tracksuit bottoms
wool socks
tactial boots.

All in all...dress warm

Tip about the French-Canadian. They are incredibly proud of who they are and can get to be very arrogant, alot of people in Quebec speak English and alot of people in Montreal don't even speak French. So I say. Good luck to you and try not to get frost bite
