Crossing the canadian border with a felony, is it possible?

Do they really check or only if you look suspicious?

They check, and you may not get back into the country if you try.

You were warned...

this is NOT possible, if you have a felony say goodbye to visting Canada, you will require a special permit from the Canadian EMbassy that will cost $500.00 a pot every time u enter canada. you need to prove that you have done your time/paid fees etc.. and you need a damn good reason to enter canada. if they run your name in the system (which they do) it will come up.

They have a system for checking cars, or boats or travel trailers, it depends on their mood, or they check every fourth or fifth..Remember next year you will have to have a passport to go to Canada...

wellaem
they will check, no matter what, unless you're a regular, and the guards know you. We are older people with nothing to hide, but they checked our licenses, and completely went thru the car, and we were only going for a day trip!

It can be done because they don't always check. They will check the plate number and may enter the driver's name, but if those are clean and nobody looks nervous or out of place, chances are they'll let you in. My sister's boyfriend made it across that way. They never considered that you legally can't enter Canada with a felony on record unless you get permission ahead of time (expensive).

When they tried it a year later, he was driving and they picked it up.

They check. So best thing is to apply for a visa at the Canadian embassy and explain exactly about the conviction and why you will not be a risk for Canada if they let you enter. If you get the visa you should have no major issues, but you might be asked to explain again when entering.

jaywalker_69
They only check if you're not white.

fiorisyl
It's just as possible as crossing the U.S. with a felony. You better check with Canadian embassy first. If you have served time, been pardoned, or have no further warrants against you, it may be O.K. Don't take a chance. Our border crossings are getting stricter too and unless you ever want to come back to Canada again, you better be honest. We require birth certificates from you folks as well. You have to ask yourself "Do I have anything to make them the least bit suspicious?" If you have nothing to hide, then why worry?

DakineBoy
They rendomly select vehicles to pull to the side and thoroughly search. I would be very short and sweet with thier questions and maybe you will breeze through. You do have to stop, kind of like a toll booth and talk to an officer for a minute at least. As long as you are not doing anything wrong you should be OK

You can go to the Canadian Pardon Board website and read about what is required if you have a record of ANY kind.
