Halifax is a great city, and Dal is a great school.

The people are open and friendly. We talk to strangers at bus stops. There is comparatively little crime. We have great live theatre, cool coffee shops and restaurants, a hip music scene, great summer festivals like the Jazz Fest and Busker Fest. We have world class hospitals and lots of established immigrant communities. Great Lebanese, Greek, Vietnamese or Thai food.

We are mostly pretty liberal and tolerant of differences. There are more bars per capita than any other city in the world (so I hear). We allow gay marriage, and no one seems too upset about it.

Our premier plays the fiddle and step dances. What can I say - Halifax is unique and wonderful. Welcome in advance - I hope you love it!

Halifax is a wonder. Lots of charm, entertainment, great schools including Dalhousie and close to everything you would want like beaches, wilderness, the gorgeous Annapolis Valley, Lunenburg, the amazing tides of the Minas Basin and skiing at Martock or Wentworth. Lots to see, do and the people are friendly, helpful and approachable - not bad for an urban area of almost 400,000 people.

Halifax is a pleasant place for a city. Quite calm and peacefull compared to major cities like toronto or new york. it has some beautifull parks and is not far from some nice hiking and things. Cape Breton Island is even better-about a 2hr drive. You should visit it if you come. Dalhousie is and excellent university.

Halifax is a nice city. It's small compared to a lot of others, fairly easy to get around, and if you are coming for university then you will really enjoy it. Everything you need is on the peninsula, which is old Halifax. Halifax is now amalgamated politically and called a municipality.

We have a very diverse student population, a lot of good and varied restaurants, and a great bar and music scene.

Dalhousie is a good choice in university.

As for the weather - winters can involve a lot of snow and ice, some years, others, not so much. It varies.

As for hurricanes - well, we average one about every 30 years in my personal experience, so I wouldn't consider that a reason to stay away.

Summers are pleasant, sometimes not overly warm, temperatures are more affected by humidity than extreme heat. Autumn is probably the nicest season. Springs can be wet and cold.

I loved Halifax when I went there, it was better then disney world for me. I am also applying to that university. but just to let you know the winters are HARSH and they get hurricans and stuff there, so just be aware of that.
