Did you know that in the States their high school students don't need Academic courses to get into university?

I have no idea where you get this strange notion.

I went to high school in the United States and then McGill University in Canada.

While there seemed to be some slight difference in emphasis as to subject matter taken in high school there was no siginificant difference between Canadian and American students.

Both my daughters went to University in the US. They both had a very challenging Wisconsin High School curriculum. They both applied to colleges that are extremely competitive. They took advanced math, science, English and Social studies. They were required to complete 2 years of a foreign language. Both were in the choir and band and took visual arts classes. I do not know where you got this information.

By the way the US does not have a national education system. Each state determines the curriculum, the standards that each teacher must meet to achieve before they are certified, and the number and type of credits that each high school student must pass before they may graduate. Only the top 20 % or so get accepted to their first choice in Universities.

Oh phooey, why did you wait so long to tell us this? Apparently I wasted a lot of time in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, 2 years of Latin, history, 4 years of English, 2 years of biology, 2 years of chemistry, etc. Doggone, here I could have been sitting on the school lawn, working on my tan instead of attending classes.

Don't know what "states" you are talking about. However there are requirements to get into college in the US, just look at any college website. They usually differ by major also.

Stop believing the BS propaganda that the US school system isn't competitive. There is so much anti-American crap out there.

I am sure that they look at your grades in addition to the SAT scores.

These Academic classes are taken when they enter a college or university, they are called Electives. So instead of doing them in high school they do them when they go to college or to a university. Which usually means that they are in college/university longer than other people from other countries are. But instead they take classes in high school that will help 'prepare' them for classes in colleges/universities. Like for example, chemistry, physics, geometry, trigonometry, and biology. Many high schools here do not offer physics or trigonometry but colleges/universities do and this is where these classes can be taken as Electives for their chosen field of study, if these are maths that need to be studied. I really don't think the education system is necessarily easier. It's just instead of taking these Academic classes in high school, they are taken in college/university. Every country is different. I'll say that when I was in high school, it was not easy. We have to take more classes in high school than many other countries do. High school students here have to take anywhere from 7 to 8 classes a day. And must complete 24 to 28 'High School Electives' in 4 years in order to graduate, less if you are in Special Education for mentally or physically disabled persons. Although High School Electives are a little easier than college/universities Electives they still help to prepare one for college/university.

We have to pay to get into college. Lots of money too like 700$ for each class.
