Difference between Canada and USA?

What are the major differences?

Canada is so much more liberal than the United States.
The climates between the two vary majorly.
The populations aren't close (I think).
Less discrimination in Canada.

Well.of course there is a big difference,Mexican citizens have full access to enter Canada, all we need is a valid passport and the intention to visit Canada. In the other hand Canada offers the chance to obtain legal residence, while the United States denies any type of legalization. There are a lot of more topics: unemployment benefits, retirement:the goverment pays about $1.000.00 a month at the age of 65,that's an extra benefit. And finally we feel more important here, because the canadian people work mixed with the immigrant community, while the americans just wish to be in the direction of the compaies.

Canada has a much smaller population than the US. The population of Canada roughly equals the population of California. Because of our small - and widespread population - we do not have the infastructure that the US has. Canada cannot create its own economy in the same way that the US can. The Canadian economy is primarily resource based. Forestry, mining, fishing, agriculture and oil extraction are all crutial to our economy. Thus, our economy is far more volatile and dependant upon the global economy than the American economy is. This has both its good points and its bad points.

Canada still has ties to Britian. HRM Queen Elizabeth II is still our head of state. (while practically the Queen's involvement in Canada is simply cerimonial) The Canadian political system is quite different from the US: We vote for our representatives (Members of Parliament) and whichever party has the most MPs, gets to choose the leader. Unless you are in the party leader's riding, you don't vote directly for the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister can declare an election anytime from the day after an election to 5 years later. We do not vote on the same day as the US does. A government can be defeated in a vote of non-confidence, and thus an election would be called automatically. We can also have a party become the governing party with a minority (as we do now). And we have more than two major parties running in each riding.

Canada has universal health care. This has its pros and cons, but generally speaking most Canadians are very proud of it. We want to fix it, but we don't want to lose it.

Because of the universal health care and other issues, Canada is much more heavily taxed than the US. Our cost of living is (generally) much higher. In most cases our wages reflect this. Housing costs in the major cities are through the roof. To purchase a 50 year old, 1100 square foot house in the Greater Vancouver (BC) area, you are looking at a price tag of at least $350,000. Scares me too!

Because our country is larger and our population is that much smaller, Canada has much more wild space than the US.
Canadians generally are a subdued group of people. A sad observation is that when you see a home flying the Canadian flag, its usually the home of new immigrants. We're proud of being Canadians and we'll complain about its failings, but we won't do much about it.

Canada has Bobcaygeon..Tragically Hip place to be

Time to live
Americans are way more conservative than even Canadians. I always laugh when I here Americans knocking down our conservative Prime Minister, most of his policies are way more liberal than any thing a democrat would think of.(I'm not supporting any political view saying that.)

In Canada we have universal health care, in the States it is mostly private.

In Canada we encourage multi-culturalism, which is we encourage people to hold onto their culture when they immigrate here.
In the States they encourage a melting pot, which is everyone who immigrates adjusts to the culture there.
Neither system works well.

In Canada you we don't vote for our Prime Minister or on the Provincial level the Premiers. We actually vote for a local person (we call that person a member of parliament) who is a member of the Prime Ministers party, if a party gets enough people elected then that party chooses their leader who is the Prime Minister. In the States you vote directly for your president.

We have a multi-party system, the States has a dual party system although sometimes a third party or independents have had some success.

Canada is still in the British Kingdom.

Our politicians are just as stupid and corrupt.

We invented Basketball Americans perfected it.

There are SO many differences it is hard to name them all. I am a proud Canadian, but I am not an American hater.

Canadians don't care if you are black/white/yellow..
They actually are so afraid of being racists that they
are the opposite.. minorities actually have more rights..
like sikh males are the only ones who don't need to wear a helmet to drive a bicycle or motorcycle.
Women with face gear can vote in some provinces without showing their face (what use is a picture i.d. if you have something hiding your face??)
Canadians don't care if you smoke weed, have abortions..

Canada is a pretty cold place except for southern bc where the rain can make you very depressed. The USA have a lot more diversity climate-wise.

The USA is a very paranoid country.. Canada is not.
United States Americans are so fearful. It amazed me when travelling in Europe how easy it was to cross borders.

Canada is north leaf flag prime minister more cost for things

USA is south star flag president less cost for things

and alot more

America invests in it's national security. Canada doesn't feel the need to invest because it presumes Uncle Sam will come to the rescue.

USA is awesome!
