Sorry to break it to you hun, the US just isn't important enough to make fun of regularly. Sure, we all have a good laugh every time your president opens his mouth. Sure, we giggle along with the rest of the world at your "We're #1" attitude. when you clearly know nothing about what goes on outside your borders. But other than that, you are not a hot topic of conversation up here. So, you may be the butt of every joke world wide, but us Canadians have an awesome sense of humor, and tend to look to comedy that doesn't put others down. |

There is much that is laudable about Americans, but there is much that is laughable as well. One of the things that cracks Canadians up is that Americans know so little about history or geography outside of their own country. |

I don't know about generally, but I have a very close(emotionally, not geographically) Canadian friend who never does that. I'll get tons of thumbs down now, because it's not politically correct to speak favorably about America(even if you live here), but I don't care. |

I'm sure Canadians make fun of Americans for being so absorbed in what's going on only in their own country and not what's happening outside of it.
I think some of the humour is not necessarily ill-intended either. Critics of Prime Minister Harper tend to associate Harper as an American wannabe for example. |

On behalf of Canadians everywhere I'd like to offer an apology to the United States of America. We haven't been getting along very well recently and for that, I am truly sorry. I'm sorry we called George Bush a moron. He is a moron but, it wasn't nice of us to point it out. If it's any consolation, the fact that he's a moron shouldn't reflect poorly on the people of America. After all it's not like you actually elected him.
I'm sorry about our softwood lumber. Just because we have more trees than you doesn't give us the right to sell you lumber that's cheaper and better than your own.
I'm sorry we beat you in Olympic hockey. In our defense I guess our excuse would be that our team was much, much, much, much better than yours.
I'm sorry we burnt down your White House during the war of 1812. I notice you've rebuilt it! It's Very Nice.
I'm sorry about your beer. I know we had nothing to do with your beer but, we feel your pain.
I'm sorry about our waffling on Iraq. I mean, when you're going up against a crazed dictator, you wanna have your friends by your side. I realize it took more than two years before you guys pitched in against Hitler, but that was different. Everyone knew he had weapons.
Finally on behalf of all Canadians, I'm sorry that we're constantly apologizing for things in a passive-aggressive way which is really a thinly veiled criticism. I sincerely hope that you're not upset over this. We've seen what you do to countries you get upset with. Thank you.

yeah. to put it bluntly. As mentioned about the politcal satire shows, we had one callled "talking to americans" and it was amazing what kind of things american's would believe about canada, obviously the smart Americans that realize the show is a total fake wouldn't make the show, but still. Canadian's dont hate Americans though, we just hate (in general) your politics and "America is #1". America is a beautiful country with a lot to answer but as a result of a seriously underfunded educational system, tends to be very ignorant about other countries and their views on America.
In general though America is not well respected in the world, many american tourists stitch canadian flags on their luggage and pretend to be canadians when traveling abroad because it's just plain safer, especially in the middle east. |

Have to agree with *ajidamoon*. The US is just not a hot topic. And if you take out all the crazy questions put in this forum by Americans, you would not see much being written about them at all. But it's rude to ignore people's questions, so when they ask us in the middle of July, where is the nearest ski resort, we have to give them an answer, don't we? Pointing to a road that heads north and telling them to keep going until they see the first igloo or can flag down a passing dog team isn't a lie really. In fact it could be seen as a kindness. Imagine the embarrassment attached to learning their question is extremely uninformed. Sooner or later they will figure it out or, alternatively, there are a lot of lost Americans arriving at Baffin Island just about now.
oops! Sorry! YA does seem to bring out a need to transform myself into a 2008 version of Wayne and Shuster. |

Yes. The government fund a few political satire shows and anti-Americanism is a regular feature. |

i think most canadians have a problem with the stereotypes that the US has about Canada igloos, snow all year, do we need to bring our skis and winter parkas (in July) and some of the questions like will Canadians accept American money (of course we will do you not accept ours), or what should i expect when i cross the border... well we are not that different.
Most Canadians have a better idea of what the States are like then what Americans know Canada to be like. Alot of that has to do with the history classes that we have to take in junior and senior high school. most of us have to study american history. |

Everybody makes fun of their neighbours. It's not just the US and Canada making fun of each other, it's very common between other countries too. |

Of course Canadians do! Who doesn't! I doubt there's one country in the world who actually sincerely likes America. |

nah,i don't care. US president is a joke, but that's about it. I just find it ignorant that Americans, well i can't say the whole nation, but an average American doesn't know what's going on in the world or in Canada, and we're neighbours.

It's like this: I moved to Canada just over a year ago. I can tell you that yes, they do make fun of Americans. The biggest jokes are: Bush, guns and the idiot border agents you have to deal with every time you go over to the other side to go shopping.
They make fun of the US in a different way. Americans make fun of Canada as a backwater, ice cube of a country. Canadians see Americans as violent, pushy, big babies that care more about the price of gas than an effective leader.
Don't believe me, move here and see! |

They sure do make fun of the U.S., and especially the NAFTA Super highway under construction...that is a real topic of lampoon for them. The only problem is that to a lesser degree it affects Canada as well.
Ron Paul is/was the only candidate to tell it "like it IS". period. |

Yes. The whole world does! You may not be an arrogant american who thinks you are the best, but everyone else is, and then they wonder why the world hates them!!!!
