As part of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, you will require a passport to board any international flight that travels to or from the United States.
Technically, you do not need a passport to enter Canada because we are not the ones requesting this be a mandatory document. But you will need one to re-enter USA as per Homeland Security.

In most cases, the airline will ask you for your passport number during booking, or at the counter when you try to pick up the ticket. Even if they did not, you will need it to clear customs.

If you are going to be flying into Canada from the US then you will need an actual passport. If you are going to be crossing on land or by sea then you can use the passport card.
For more info try travel.state.gov for the most updated information.
Hope this helps. |

"Steve" gave the only correct answer! See site below to read the law for yourself. Amazing the number of people who like to guess about this and have no references to give! You will not be allowed on an airplane to Canada without a passport. See 2nd site for all passport application information. |

Yes you need a passport. You do not need one if you drive, but you will in a few months, I think the law changes in February. |

It used to be that all you needed to enter Canada was a drivers licence or birth certificate. However, due to 9/11, this might have changed and therefore a passport may be necessary. I would check with the airlines of the Canadian Consolate to find out the exact answer. In my opinion, a passport would be better since it is internationally accepted. |

For travel by sea or land to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda, you only need a passport card, which is less expensive than a passport book.
if you are traveling by air, you need a passport book. |

I've seen most Americans ask this question if they have another damn option besides passport because I guess they don't want people to know their hillbillie profiles? But anyway, why is it so damn hard to think that you really need a damn passport?
Is this your damn state? Or it's just a state of mind?
Cause' Im sure most Americans think it's so good to be at the other border where the grass is green...
