No...passports are NOT needed for LAND travel between Canada and the U.S. until June 1, 2009. See site below to verify this. |

To verify what a couple of others have said, NO you do not need passports. You all need your birth certrificates, and your parents also need a government issued photo ID such as their drivers' licenses. That will do it. |

No, you do NOT need a passport to enter the U.S. by car.
Canadian citizens entering the U.S. by land or water do not need a passport until summer 2009. A passport is only required for air travel between the U.S. and Canada.
Any of the following is sufficient to enter the U.S. and return to Canada by car:
- A passport (not required, but encouraged)
- Birth certificate (if you have no passport, this is required)
- Drivers license (required for photo ID for anyone over 19)
- Canadian citizenship naturalization certificate
If you have no passport you need to show your driver's license AND birth certificate. A driver's license is not proof of citizenship or legal status in Canada, but it is required for photo ID. Photo ID is not required for anyone under 19.
From the U.S. Department of Homeland Security:
"Canadian citizens ages 19 and older must present documentation that proves both identity and citizenship. Identification documents must include a photo, name and date of birth. Children ages 18 and under will only be required to present proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate. "
