You currently only need a passport to fly. Just going across the boarder on land you will all need drivers license and birth certificates. Eventually passports will be required for all crossings. Currently they are planning to change it next summer.

You def do not. I live in Niagara Falls and go to the states all the time. As of Feb 1st you need government issued ID and your birth certficate. You won't need a passport until next year.

if you are all American citizens and are driving to Niagara all you need is 1 form of government issued photo ID(drivers license) and a birth certificate or each person

You need to each bring some identification that is proof of your American citizenship. This includes either a birth certificate accompanied by a piece of government issued photo identification, or a passport. In the summer of 2009 passports will become mandatory for everyone leaving and entering the US.

Just for reference, Customs agents love it when you have your ID out an ready when you pull up to the booth.

Yes you and your parents will need passports. So I'd apply soon if I were you. Though the wait won't take as long as it did last year when they announced the changes in traveling to foreign countries, including Canada and Mexico, it still takes a while.

The good news is you can go to just about any Post Office to submit your application.
