December 31, 2007 - Requirement extended to all land border crossings as well as air and sea travel.
The answer is yes if you are flying or going in by boat. But you do not need one if driving in until 12/2007

There are two different things to consider: Entry requirements for getting into Canada, and entry requirement for returning to your home country. These are NOT the same thing. You need to check out both sets of requirements before starting out for your trip. Assuming that you are an American traveling to Canada:
To enter Canada: The Citizenship and Immigration Canada website says that, to enter Canada from most countries, all you need is a passport, or some other document that proves who you are. Link: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/canad...
To re-enter the US: This is entirely a US border issue, so you should check out the most recent US entry requirements (which will soon be changing, and will require a passport from anyone who wants to enter the US). Link: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html |
