The factual answer, with a source to back it up is:
By air, you will need a passport to board an international flight from or to the U.S.
By land or sea, passports are not needed until Jan 2008 or later (date not yet set). You need a photo I.D. (Drivers License) and proof of citizenship (birth certificate) especilaly to get back into the U.S.

To enter Canada-no you do not need a passport. However, since January 23, 2007; if you are flying and need to "re-enter" the USA you will require a passport. That means when you go home. This same American law (WHTI) will take effect for travel by land and water as soon as January 2008. |

No, but you might need one to get back into the States. Blame it on the Terrorists, for making all our lives a bit more difficult. Maybe soon, we will have to have an eye scan, and give a sample of our sperm to move around this paranoid world of ours. Sorry Ladies, they might ask for an egg. |

If you are entering by aircraft you do but if you are driving or coming in by boat you dont right now but you will in another year. |

Yes you do. New regulations that just went to effect requires you to have a passport to get in and out of the US from Canada or Mexico. |
