I live in new york and I am driving to canada tomorrow morning. If i go to toronto than back to the USA will i need a passport? or can I just bring my license and birth certificate? I've never been there and i was curious to know if as of the first of the year its changed. Hope someone can help. Thanks!
ALWAYS bring your passport with you when you leave America............
You will save youself ALOT of trouble if you do.

All of the previous answers are incorrect. You do NOT need a passport to reenter the United States if travelling by car. If travelling by airplane then the answer is yes you do need a passport but for now (until June 09) you don't need a passport if travelling by car. After June however, you will need a passport regardelss of your method of travel.

No, you don't. U.S. citizens need to present either (a) a passport/ passport card, or (b) a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license, along with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate. After 1 June 2009, you do, but for now you're fine.

I think you need a passport now. A few years ago you could have gotten away with just the other docutments-but not now.
