I've traveled from the US to Niagara Falls, Canada twice when (allegedly) passports weren't needed according to the prevailing rules. Both times I was asked to show my passport on my way back to the US from Canada.
Bring the passport. Why take the chance? |

We drove there 5 weeks ago and all they asked us for was our ID. We gave them our driver's license.
That's it.
If you want to take a safe route and you do not have a passport, take a copy of your birth certificate.
FYI - If you are flying into Toronto - Yes you will need you passport. |

For the rest of this year you do not need a passport if you are driving there, but you will need an original birth certificate with a seal on it and a photo ID, like a driver's license or one issued by the welfare department.
If you are flying then you will need a passport. At least I believe that is true. |

NO you do not need one if you are driving or walking across the border....if you have a passport thats fine but you do not need one yet...and even the rules being changed to needing one next year are not set in stone |

No, you do not need a passport to enter Canada by land at this time. Border guards may ask for one, and if you have one, you give it to them...but you may enter using your certifiec birth certificate and a photo I.D. See website below for current , correct info. Niagra is gorgeous, esp. the Canadian side. Have a great time. |

IF you are going to the Canadian side of the Falls?

If you drive across or even walk across you will not need a passport until january of 2008, just drivers license ( or other government issued photo ID ) and birth certificate and they may not even ask for your birth certificate. If you fly into canada you do require a passport as of january of 2007. |

If you are a U.S. Citizen, then you DON'T need a passport if you go by land or sea. If by air, you DO need one. As mentioned, you should bring your Driver's License or State Identification card and have a copy of your Birth Certificate (with the seal you can feel). If you are a Permanent Resident, then bring your Permanent Resident Card (green card.) If you don't have a copy of your Birth Certificate with the seal you can feel, don't be surprised if you only get to see Niagara from the U.S. side. I suppose it depends on how thorough they are on the day/s you go through. |

From now until January 1st, you can still cross the border to the Canadian side and return home with just two pieces of identification - that's if you're doing a land crossing. If you fly, you will need a passport, not to get into Canada, but to return to the US. You also now need a passport to return to the US from Mexico and the Caribbean. |
