Dear...I'm Canadian..some advice to you..hold your breath..the dollar will be good for a while...and then like 30 years ago..it will come crashing down and in the end you'll look like a fool..learn about economics dear.
Also for ex. if you buy clothes here you pay at least 25% extra, thats why people are going down south. Ask our Prime Minister "if our dollar is so good, why are our products so expensive?" And while your talking to him "Tell him he's an idiot". |

If the Canadian dollar is high it is because it is being bought by other countries.
Only two reasons exist for buying a country's currency.
One is currency speculation and the other is that you are buying the country's products or property and paying them in their own money.
It would be nice if they told you what people are buying with our money in the media.
One other thing could be happening and that is that the Canadian dollar is not actually rising in the international currency exchanges as much as the US currency is falling.
I think recent problems with the USA mortgage market and their economic slowdown might be putting an awful lot of pressure on their financial system. |

f*ck yahoo, i'm doing google

It isn't anything to be excited about, it will only hurt the Canadian economy, the only benefit is to the travelers who want to support their economy more than our own. Just look at the snide remarks already posted... why would you care to feed that? They don't deserve our money.
To the poster that referred to the loonie plummeting 30 years ago... you're a schmuck, it's at the same exchange today as it was 30 years ago, get your facts straight if you want to poke fun at us, it just makes you look stupid to be so obviously wrong. It was in the early 90's through 2002 that it was at it's low exchange point.
My guess would be that most yanks aren't even aware of the parity, they're too self absorbed and frankly it won't effect them much other than many of the commodities they rely on Canada for that they'd never admit they need us for will cost them more now without them knowing why. |

I'm a Canadian, and I don't share your enthusiasm about it. You should remember that USA is the biggest economic partner of Canada, and if they have difficulties with their economy, it might affect our economy.
And US residents are our friends not our enemies... |

Frankly, most people in the US don't care. People who are long dollars and short loonies care, but the rest don't.
The average American will notice that the price of fuel is higher, but they won't notice that plywood at home depot now has USA stamped on it than Canada.
Canadians are the ones who should care, especially the ones not working in the energy center. If your products are now more expensive to your largest trading partner you better start worrying about your job. |
