I'd say about 2/3 of Quebecers speak only French, and of the other 1/3, 1/3 of them have English as their first language, and of them , I think it's pretty much only my parents that don't speak French.

flash_flotsam
Both are spoken, though French is more widely spoken and is usually the first language spoken.

I have not been in many years, but the last time I was there, some people only speak French, some only speak English, some speak both. Most of the restaurant have menus in both. I know McDonalds does.

Much of the population speaks French, especially in smaller towns. In cities like Montreal and Quebec City, English is spoken by a sizable population; alost everyone in larger cities speaks both Englilsh and French.. There are areas that are English only, but they tend to be small fishing villages on the Lower North Shore.

@ beatystud, they will be rude if YOU are rude....

I live in Quebec... I never had any problems.

Most speak english, but some miserable ones pretend not to. Try learning a few words of French and make an effort, it will be appreciated. Quebec is a great place, and if you are friendly, it most likely will be returned. Never fear, someone can speak english no matter where you end up.
