When you cross an international border you are making an application to enter that country. So it is your responsibility to inform the customs officers of any wrong doings from your past. Remember how would you feel if someone with a criminal past entered your country?? If that person could not respect the laws of his/her country what makes you think they will respect the laws of your country?
The smartest thing to do is to get in touch with the Canadian Border Agency and asked them what the proper procedure is. That way when you do come to Canada you don't have to worry about him possibly being detained or even sent to jail.
One more thing Customs does have access to your criminal records from all countries.
It is a CRIMINAL offense to come to Canada with a criminal record. Ignorance is not an excuse.
I hope this helps. |

Nope. I was just there. You do need a valid form of ID (photo). Something that hasn't expired. You may have to get out of your car so it can be searched. They don't search every vehicle, but you don't want to take any chances. |

I think it depends on whether he has any outstanding warrants for arrest. If he does, not only will he not get into Canada but he could very well be taken into custody at the border. If I were you, I would check with your local police to see if there are any warrants. |

I've been through this with my boyfriend trying to go to the U.S. Check with the border your planning on crossing at. They would not let us enter becuase he had a criminal record. No they do not run a criminal record check, 1. we're a different country, we don't have your stuff on file and 2. They're customs, not police, the only people with access to those records are the police. So if you wanted to you could just lie lol, but be careful I wouldn't want to get caught. |
