Do you know a good steakhouse in Toronto?

For an elegant atmosphere, and a little jazz afterward, locals head to the Senator Steakhouse (Dundas and Victoria). As the name implies, it specializes in steak, but all entrees are first-rate. Upstairs is a classy jazz bar very popular among after-dinner patrons as well as the nightclub crowd.

The second link below is a listing of steakhouses in Toronto, starting with the top results. Read the profiles for reviews and ideas on how much it will costs per person. You should be able to get a good idea where you can get the best meal for the best value.

The oldest and still the best for atmosphere and service is, Barberian Steakhouse and Tavern, on Elm St, I may be a bit partial as I worked there several years ago, but the quality and pride of service has never changed, enjoy the best selection in town if you get the chance.

Barbarians is great, if you've got the bankroll. It's extremely expensive. I like Hy's quite a bit and to be honest, I've never had a bad steak at the Keg. A meal for two there, including wine and a tip will run you about 100 bucks. Ruth's Chris is also very good, but like Barbarian's it's pricy.

All these suggestions (except for ponderosa) are good ones. I've had many a steak in this city and Barbarians is quite good. Also very good (pricey) is Black Angus on Bloor, between Islington and Royal York (subway line). Keg mansion (always busy and big wait) is great atmosphere, but it is still just a big Keg with the same old Keg menu - boring compared to the others.

I would highly recommend Carmen's or La Castille.

I would avoid Mortons or Ruth Criss.

Either of these two are my favorite:
http://toronto.ibegin.com/restaurants/barberians-steak-house (fancy, but you can wear jeans)
or
http://toronto.ibegin.com/restaurants/keg-steakhouse--barthe-keg-mansion (no reservations allowed)

Neither of the above two are cheap though. The source I used is great way to find more places.
