I had travelled from india and I got the visitors passport to go to
Canada.If you give application in morning around 8.30am in NewYork ,you can get it in evening by 2Pm that day.The application should be accompanied by Passport,filled application detailing your family details including passport details and financial status and purpose of visit.Mine was tourist.It is given for 6 weeks or so but validity is for 6 months from the date of entry.It costs $ 70 dollars and it could be in cash(exact change required) or dd.One could obtain visa 2 times only from canadian embassy in case your visa expires after 6 months.
For the third time you are expected to go to original country to get it.I had visa to usa when applied.
I understand it is easy to get from the country of origin .Keep safe 7 to 10 days for getting it as sometime queries and support documents may be required if applied from country of origin.
For multiple entry visa is for 3 years and fees i think is $135.

From where? If you are a US citizen, no just a valid license or state photo ID. If you are not a US citizen, then yes, plus whatever applicable visa's.
If you are going with family, and there are young children, you might however want to bring a copy of that childs birth certificate.

not sure but I think bush has tried to pass a law that we will need a pass port in the future to go to Canada In sur all you need now is a id, but come OCT. I do not know the rule yet.

I live close to the Canadian border in WA State, and travel often into Canada. To cross into Canada is relatively easy, ie., answer a few questions about the purpose and length of your stay, and sometimes show some ID.

It's getting back into the States that is more difficult. Here, we need a certified copy of a birth certificate and a driver's license, or other form of identification with a picture on it.
