You just got 4 WRONG answers...I notice none of them gave a reference! You also get 2 correct ones. You do NOT need a passport to travel between the US. and Canada by LAND until after SUMMER 2008. See website below and read top half of the page carefully for the CURRENT info.

if you are american you do not need a pasport til mid 2008 to drive across the border ,if your not american you do need one

No!! you do not. In yahoo search type in Passport to Canada. It will tell you that you don't yet

Not yet. Just an ID (Driver's license, student ID, birth cert, etc). You should probably get a passport anyway just to have one. Can't hurt, right? You're going to need it at some point in time anyway.

Most people here are wrong. Charlie is right.

Until January 31, all you will need is government-issued ID (like a driver's license).

On and after January 31, you will need the ID PLUS proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate.

Passports are not needed for drivers until the summer.

NO!!! all u need is valid ID with ur photo to cross the boader by car. if u take the airplane then u need a passport, but currently u do not need a passport to croos the boder by car!!

You should take a passport with you regardless of where you travel now because the gov. is very strict.
