Not if you're a US or Canadian citizen. Contrary to what some people are telling you, this is not expected to change.
What will change next year though, is that to get BACK to the US, you will need a passport (or possibly another form of secure ID, but this is still in the discussion stage, and I wouldn't count on it). So to get to Canada, you're fine with your Birth Certificate and photo ID; but if you want to get home, you'd better pack a passport.
If you're flying, you'll already need a passport to get back. |

No, not if you are a U.S. Citizen, at least not until January 2008 or later. (see http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html )
You will need a photo I.D. such as Driver's License, and proof of citizenship such as birth certificate. |
