YOU DO NOT NEED A PASSPORT TO VISIT CANADA IF YOU ARE A US CITIZEN.

You will, however, need:
1.
Proof of your U.S. citizenship such as your U.S. passport or certified copy of your birth certificate issued by the city, county or state in the U.S. where you were born. If you are a naturalized U.S. citizen and do not have a passport, you should travel with your naturalization certificate. A driver’s license, voter’s registration card or Social Security card is NOT valid proof of citizenship.
2.
Photo identification, such as a current, valid driver’s license.

The MIGHT be changes in the future.
This is what is currently PROPOSED (NOT LAW):
*
December 31, 2006 – Passport required for all air and sea travel to or from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.
* December 31, 2007 – Passport required for all land border crossings, as well as air and sea travel.

So even under the proposed changes you will not NEED a passport.

They asked for it when we drove, so the answer is yes.

Although, they let us in with drivers license, I think they will be more strict on a airplane.

It's helpful, but at this point in time it's not necessary. I used to cross with just my driver's license and birth certificate before I applied for immigration to Canada. Then I HAD to get a passport.

Yes, that was not a case a year ago. It is a new law so some people dont know about and will tell you that you dont need one, but you do.

I have no idea. I've never flown there. I know when I'd drive there thru the U.P. all I had to do was let them look in my car and say how long I'd be staying. That and tell them I didn't have anything illegal. now I'm curious!

Absolutely. We always travel between the two countries and it has always been required.

i don't believe u need one yet but to be honest i don't think it would hurt to have one just in case!

hilarywow
no!!!!!!!!!!
you do not need a passport, the laws have not been changed. Eventually you will need a passport (2007), but not yet.
