Someday you will, but I think you can still go without one, for now at least. I think it's changing real soon. |

At last account (which was a while ago), US citizens do not require a passport to travel between US and Canada. |

Not in Nov. 2006. Do have two forms of government issued id like a birth certificate WITH A RAISED SEAL, SS card, and drivers liscense. The problem isn't crossing the border from the US. It's always come back into the US where the officials hold people up. If you have a passport that is the only ID they need. |

You may not need a passport, but keep in mind that, at U.S./Canadian border crossings, you may need to produce an original birth certificate (not a flimsy copy, either!) which authenticates your U.S. citizenship. A driver's license will not do! |

The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 requires that by January 1, 2008, travelers to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the United States. In order to facilitate the implementation of this requirement, the Administration is proposing to complete it in phases following a proposed timeline, which will be published in the Federal Register in the near future. |

You do not need a passport yet but after Jan. 1, 2207 you will. They recommended that you bring your birth certificate, social security card, and picture id just in case. |

No. The use of a passport is not effective until January 2007. |

No. The deadline is officially December 31, 2006 if you're flying to/from the U.S. to Canada or December 31, 2007 if you're driving to/from the U.S. to Canada. A birth certificate and a picture ID will suffice. WARNING: If you don't have a birth certificate you can be held by the Canadian Immigration Service or the INS until your citizenship is established, which can take a couple of hours or longer. |

I think that U.S. citizens can commute back and forth after clearing the checkpoint at the border, with a passrport. Check this out though, I am not 100% positive. |
