You will have far fewer opportunites for employment in Montreal is you are unilingual English. It won't be impossible to find a job, but your options will be fewer. It will also depend on the skills and training you have and your field of work. |

It is not impossible to get a job in Montreal being unilingual English. You may be limited to the kinds of work you can do. I've been served by salespeople in Montreal who only spoke English.
By not speaking French, you really limit your opportunities. Learn some basic French to start. Over time, you will learn enough French to be able to socialize in all situations, and not just at work. |

You don't need to be bilingual, but it definately would help.
I know some people who don't know a word of french and still get around fine.
plus, living in the city and working there, I'm sure you'll pick up a lot of french as you go. |

It's not absolutely necessary but being bilingual will help you in the long run, believe me!
May I remind you that Montreal is a predominantly French speaking town with a long history of separatism.
Also, if you're planning to work with the public and you don't speak a word of French, might as well forget it!
You will have a harder time getting hired than a bilingual applicant and that's a guarantee!
Solely speaking English is acceptable if you're here as a tourist spending your hard earned cash but if you live and work in Montreal, what's your excuse?!?
Do yourself a favor and enroll your good self into some French classes!

I'm Canadian so. i ve herd of this before. i think as long you can wright Canadian french pretty thorough, you'll be OK. as long if you have a bi-lingual back round. because everyone in Montreal some people speak pure french and others are bi-lingual. |
