Nope. Flying within Canada, you simply show official photo ID, such as license or Health Card.

(just back from NS without a passport)

You absolutley need a photographic identification.

The problem (if you're an immigrant), is that depending on how lately you've come to the country, the airport security may not accept (or understand) ID issued from another non-North American country.

You required a passport to enter Canada in the first place (particularly if you're an immigrant). It is in your best interest to have the passport document with you when you're traveling - along with any naturalization papers or residency papers (including visas) that may pertain. Particularly if you're traveling outside the 'normal' area where you live/work/study.

Basically, it's the same as if you were going on vacation to another country - bring the ID to let them know who you are (in event of an emergency).

You should take your passport with you. I went to Canada a few years ago and I needed a passport when driving through the border, and when returning by plane.
