Do you often treat Canada as an appendage to the U.S?

I hardly realize the fact that Canada and US are two seperate countries.

Jason - Canadians get really mad - "Thems fightin' words."

I don't understand that....we have the same ethnic backgrounds, cultural values, and the same roots to our legal system.

Maybe it's because I grew up within a few miles of the border. Hey guys, they don't call it the Peace Bridge for nothing! Try to look at American camaraderie as our affection for you.

Well Junior we are a separate country, and we do not deserve to be treated as an appendage of the US anymore than the US deserves to be treated as an appendage of Canada.

$Sun King$
No. I treat the U.S. as an appendage to Canada.
That's why we send our garbage to Michigan.

July 12, 1812 - American's try to invade Canada at Windsor and retreat. Agree to accept Canada's garbage in perpetuity
and at cut rates.

We are 2 separate countries thank god... I don't think that I could live in a country where they vote in George Bush TWICE!!!!!! To me this shows that American people are still ignorant about the world around them.

sarah
NO!!! thank God....i hate it when arrogant americans say crap like that

tuppenybitz
no way
Canada is far better than the states, the people are actually nice in Canada!

SteveN
I was grimacing at this question when I saw it, as I was worried what appendage people were going to tell you Canada was. ;-)

Our two countries share common interests and have similar cultures, but we are very different in other ways. Americans tend to be more openly patriotic, and Canadians have more of a live and let live attitude to the world.

In one sense, I wish that we were more alike, because at the moment the Americans are so security concious that they are bordering on paranoid.

And they have every right to be, don't get me wrong. But with the new laws coming in effect that require everyone (including Canadians) to have a passport to get into the USA as of 2008, and it has put a crimp on my trips down south for both tourism and business, and I am sure others as well on both sides of the border.

here is an example: I had a passport that expired several years ago. I am trying to get that renewed. But the problem is Canada now requires an official birth certificate, not one that came from a church. Prior to 1975, no one was issued official certificates and so we have a backlog due to bureaucracy.

In addition, we have to pay a fee to get the birth certificate, pay for passport photos, and another fee to get the passport itself. You are looking at a couple hundred dollars when all is said and done. And the passport is only valid for 5 years!

I think that this is what the extremists and terrorists wanted in the first place. In the grand scheme of things, they killed a few thousand people on Sept 11, but they also changed the lifestyle and freedoms of the west possibly forever.

Are you serious? Canada is a completely different country with it's own policies, completely separate from anything that the U.S. decides. This is why we aren't in Iraq!! Point of contention for George W. but our former PM wouldn't cave. I do hope you knew that it saddens me that people believe we are the same as our neighbours to the south.

Look, I'm American living in Canada, unlike the rest of the responses you'll probably get from Canadians, I will say something nice about Canada unlike they do about US. Canada is nice & a lovely country seperate from the US. I like it here. GW Bush is doing the right thing and I don't care how many liberals that offends. I'm tired of my country being judged by it's elected officials. I live in Canada for my families sake and thats it, otherwise I'd still be in the midwest.
If you haven't been here, you need to visit, it will really open your eyes to Canada's beauty.

cwhl
thats a very ignorant thing to say.
never in my life would i ever think or feel that way.

Canada is like that favorite pimple on your @ss. It does nothing good for you, it hurts a little when you sit down, but if it were gone you'd miss it.
