Do you think that Canadians should stop going to Mexico?

I have worked in Travel and Hospitality for 20 years, I will not go to Mexico, they have the fourth highest crime rate in the world period. Waring gangs, unstable government in many areas and corruption is a huge problem. Up until now given the choice between the 2, I have always gone to Cuba (Castro being ill has made me think twice). There are many other places just a beautiful and in the same price range if you go at the right time. Aruba is my island of choice. 14 murders in 2004....thats it!!!!

~muffun~
yes, definitely. it seems the police or authority there seem to have no respect for canadians and probably not for anybody else either.

LindaLou
Yes I do!

I will not be going to Mexico EVER, since it is abundantly clear to me that the lives of tourists are of no consequence to any officials over there and all they want to do when we are murdered is cover it up and hush it up so that their tourism industry will not suffer.

I say we should all boycott Mexico, hit them where it hurts in tourism dollars and let them know that we will not stand for tourist murders, shoddy investigations and subsequent cover ups by officials.

I'm booked for the first week in march. Can't wait!

In regards to the crime/police situation, every country has its problems. If you are extremely concerned, then just stay in your resort...

2 incidents does not warrant paranoia

blueboy342
are u serious??

sportoholicns
No Canadians and other people in general should continue going to Mexico. What people have to careful is when they go off resort or when they stray from a cruise ship excursion to save a couple of bucks. It doesn't matter where you go, there are places in every country where it is just not safe for 1 or 2 people by themselves.

If you stay in the resorts or do cruise excursions there is much chance of being harmed away as there is as home. Think logically, people know how to use their surroundings and all visitors are potential victims when outside their surroundings.

I don't think so. As long as they are aware of the risks of travel, there is no reason to stop traveling to Mexico (this goes the same for any group of people visiting any country on earth).

Jamie
NO!

No, I'll make my own decisions on where I will travel to. I'm not about to go to an all you can drink bar and then wander into traffic, or have my throat cut for my jewlery in any case.

p_wabbit
are you serious??

is that because that stupid meathead kid couldn't hold his liquour and got hit by a car in Acapulco?? (despite his parent's claims to the contrary of coroners both here and there)

man, that could have happened ANYWHERE - hell he could have been killed in a Boxing day drive by on Yonge St.

I think considering the tens of tens of thousands of Cdn that travel to Mexico and have a great time year after year, 1 dead drunk kid and a dead couple with alleged mob ties over the course of the last few years is not really huge cause for concern..

Frankly, I'm more concerned for my safety travelling to the United States than Mexico.. (random violence, dangerous cities, racial profiling and the Patriot Act)

David L
Why? Does it bother you that Canadians go to Mexico?
How about Americans stop going to Iraq
