Do you want quebec to become its own nation?

personaly i like having quebec as a part of canada, i think it adds to our diversity and is a huge part of our culture and history. what are your feelings to Quebec wanting to be alone... would you like it, not care... dislike it etc?

The majority of Quebecers do not want to separate from Canada, which is why they haven't left yet. And no, I don't want them to leave. I am proud to have Quebec as part of our great country, and am proud to have our French brothers and sisters as part of our culture. I am an Anglophone, with French ancestry, who believes that ALL Canadians should be forced to learn both languages, with NO exceptions. All English students should be schooled in French Immersion, while all French students should be schooled in English Immersion. I honestly believe that if we English folk were to be more accepting of the French and were to respect their pride in their own language and ancestry, the French wouldn't feel so 'unwanted'. We need to make the effort to show them that we want them here!

Edit: some of these clearly anti-French answers are EXACTLY what I'm talking about. This is why the French feel so unwanted and disrespected. I can't believe how rude some of the English people in Canada are to the French. Is it any wonder why the French are taught (even if it isn't 100% correct) that they are despised by the English? I have travelled to Quebec, I have lived in places where there is a VERY high population of French, and I have visited French-speaking New Brunswick. In all that time, I have met ONE rude French person! Only one. I grew up in Newfoundland and Labrador, a province in which, unfortunately, there is a lot of bad blood towards Quebec (the whole Churchill Falls thing), but yet, even then there was no anti-Quebec feel. I truly felt that mostly after I moved out west. I was amazed at the rudeness of some of the attitudes I discovered out here.

I don't want for Quebec to become its own nation.I am french Canadian and grew up in Quebec city.

I wish that political groups that support the separation didn't go to colleges in Quebec to tell the kids how much the rest of Canada hates them and despises them to recruit new supporters.

The way I see it the politicians who are for separation just want more power..(though the separatist movement started out with goals for major societal changes).

If that is what they want...let them go...

In my opion if they don't want to be a part of Canada then they can pick themselves up and leave.

No one is holder them here, there are lost of other places they can go and live the way they would like to.

I'm fed up with the Canadian Gov. not taking a stand. They need to stop bending the rules and allowing other cultures and religions walk all over them. (I don't like using the U.S. as an example however you would never see the U.S. even entertain this kind of nonsense)!!

I've lived in 4 different countries and have decided to come back to my birth country. So I feel these people have no excuse, moving is do-able and realistic (I view this a laziness and defiance, and selfishness on there part)

I am a bilingual anglophone Quebecer. Do I want Quebec to separate? No. Will I still be here if they do separate? No. I will probably be across the border with my company either in Ontario, or perhaps in Alberta.

But let's not think that way. I believe that Canada and Quebecer's are better off united than divided. If you look at businesses and even the governments in Europe, they are all trying to conglomerate or remove levels of government and red tape.

And quite frankly, I think that most Canadians both in Quebec and the rest of Canada are tired of wasting taxpayer money on debating the separation issue rather than spending it where it is needed, such as healthcare, education, and the crumbling infrastructure.

Weird thought: If we didn't waste the money on referendums, perhaps five people in Laval would be alive now because the resources would have been available to check the aging overpasses earlier.

Find the article by Daniel Audet in a recent publication of L'Actualite magazine. Audet is a politician and was an adviser to the Parti Quebecois for Bernard Landry and more recently Andre Boisclair. Certainly an odd source for Canadian unity, but he has some interesting proposals to make Quebec a better stronger place within Canada.

I dont want it to be alone, im perfectly fine with it being in canada, its too much needed to make a new country, a government, an army, etc

I think Quebec should remain part of Canada just like I think the only hope for peace between Israel and the the Palestinian territory is for them to become one nation.

It's isolation that leads to suspicion and animosity.

Do i WANT them to leave - NO it is them that wants to leave, and if they want to leave then see ya, don't let the door hit you in tha a s s on the way out. Take their share of the National debt, form their own currency and armed forces, and leave with the territory you came into canada with ( why should Ruperts land which has been British for 500 years ever leave canada - it was put under quebec jurisdiction under the assumption quebec was part of canada and it has nothing to do with preserving french language or culture ( which is the seperatist main arguement for seperation ) )

If the province wants to be apart of Canada then it should be. That's my thoughts on it and if they don't want to be then go. Trouble is, I think they are split on that decision, hence why no action on either ends.

Time to live
I personally think they should leave. My only reason is that I think it is going to happen one day in the future any how so why waste time and money trying to keep them here.
The Quebec people have been electing separatist provincial governments and really separatist mp's for a while now. These party's have a very open separatist agenda. They create policy's that will eventually lead to separation. It is just a matter of time.
I say that the rest of Canada should force Quebec to either leave or commit to stay. I am tired of the time and money wasted on trying to keep them apart of Canada.

i have always thought we should stay as one nation, but a few months ago i met someone from quebec and he was so rude. he went on and on about how many quebecers feel like they are poorly treated and respected by other provs/terrs. he een said that if he were at an international event or travelling abroad he would never waive/show the canadian flag, but he would proudly display the quebec flag. what the?!??!?!

It wouldn't hurt us out west. We're tired of the drama and the excess funding they receive. Although they are part of Canada I don't believe any other provinces receives more funding, programs and rebates/refunds as they do.
If they want to leave then leave but be sure to take the debt with them and nothing more.
