Do you wonder as much as I do what the Liberal Party promised Duceppe?

"...The enemy of my enemy is my friend..."

Duceppe does not like Harper or the Conservatives. Most likely, they simply agreed to not pursue the same avenues that Harper has been doing.

Duceppe is a very intelligent man in a party that is likely never going to win a federal majority, and if he sees that he can get more points in Quebec by bringing down Harper's government (that Quebecers are upset at because of his stance on young offenders and the arts in the last election), then it would not take too many promises to sway him.

Probably the only promise made was to never bring a motion that would be negative for Quebec in the next 12 months, to ensure he would not have to vote against it.

By the way, please remember that the Bloc Quebecois were NOT part of the coalition. They simply agreed in principle to vote along coalition lines on matters of confidence. Some people make the mistake or try to give the impression (namely the Conservatives) that the Bloc are part of the coalition, when they are not.

Absolutely. NDP got six cabinet posts, Liberals are keeping 12, which uses up the 18 positions that the 'Coalition' stated they would have. But no one has even hinted at what Duceppe might have been promised - and it's a sure thing that he isn't in there for the good of the nation, or out of the kindness of his heart. He could just as easily have gone to Harper and suggested joining forces with him - which would have given a clear majority - but he knew Harper wouldn't do anything to contribute to either increasing Quebec's over-large grab on federal funding, or the separatist cause. So one can only wonder what Dion and Layton have promised Duceppe to bring him onside? It's a scary thought. But then, that whole coalition is scary.

Yes, I wonder too. This was all planned long ago, as was leaked in the Jack Layton fiasco.
Duceppe is the Puppet-Master here and either way, he wins.

MasterPython
They basically offered them veto power.

alwaysgallant
Liberals= 250millions that diapeared when they were in power
NDP= waking up every day hoping not be elected as they promissed 5 billiond dollars in lasst election but dont know wher to get them...lol
Block= english cleansing in quebec, and whaetevr in not pure laine in not allowed in quebec...( a separatist is a separatist)

Put all 3 parties together and they tell you in your face : We dont care how you vote, this is Canada, we are not in democracy, we take the governement anytime we want to!!!!!

and they have Dion as pm!!?
politics?? lol... i need to go back to work..to pay their salary....

Lieu. Provo William Parry Wallis
Nothing, Harper and the Conservatives did enough damage Duceppe didn't need convincing to join the Coalition.

The Coalition is simply in the best interest of Quebec, he doesn't need convincing to see that--it's clear. Harper didn't offer economic stimulus.
