This is an extension of an earlier question but is it true that if convicted of a felon in the US, a person wanting to become a Canadian citizen, can get clemency from Canada to enter the country if the person has a skill that Canada deems useful? |

you need to get an official pardon
(from jurisdiction in which you were convicted)
also, really would depend on the crime.. anything to do with guns, violence or a capital offence like murder would probably preclude you.. Drug cries, petty theft, white collar crime, maybe self defence manslaughter - you may be eligable for a pardon.
In addition to a pardon, I would imagine refernece letters, volounteering history and useful skills would all play favourably in your review.. but at the end of the day - you need to discuss your options with an immigration lawyer.
What you need to do is call or visit the website of a Canadian immigration lawyer, check the link below for the full story. |

NO !!! Depending on the port of entry they usually run the license plate on your vehicle. They can pull you aside for no reason and grill you with questions. If you are asked if you are a felon, you will be turned around and sent home. |

Canada does not want U.S. Felons anymore than the U.S. does! |

You can check with the closest consulate. It may depend upon the felony and if you can manage to get a pardon from a USA source showing you've been trouble-free for seven years, otherwise, nope...it's grounds for refusing immigration and entry to the country. |

I'm sure they don't want our felons any more than we want theirs. |

No...Depending on what the person was convicted for, they won't even be allowed in the country, and if they sneak in, odds are they'll be deported. |
