Does Canada rely on usa for protection or contrary??????

Canada is the peaceful country of the two. It's unlikely anyone would declare war on us, except for our american ties. So although we don't rely on americans for protection, I think they rely on Canadians more than they are willing to admit. It seems that every day we hear more and more about the whole world hating americans. That is never said about Canadians. Which is exactly why when travelling overseas americans wear Canadian identification.

In comparing the military strength of the worlds leading 39 forces (top 39 countries), USA ranked number one. Canada came in at number 15. Statistically, they rely on each other militarily. The USA has a greater population, and therefore a proportionately larger military.

Do we rely on USA for protection? I guess you could say that is true to a degree. We have a large country and probably do not have adequate military to protect against a determined invasion force.

Our navy consists of several aging ships, and one working non-nuclear submarine...not really great considering we are surrounded on three sides by oceans.

However, our air force is respectable and our ground troops are some of the best trained in the world for all types of climate except possibly for dense jungle.

But we really only need to protect the Pacific coastline and the Maritime provinces. Our southern border runs the full length of the USA, so a build up of troops in that area makes no sense unless we feel that the Americans are poised to invade Canada.

Our northern border is frozen over for half the year, and the other half is water and icebergs. We have a few radar and listening outposts up there to meet NATO requirements and to track any suspicious planes or ships. We will see any missile launches and can scramble fighters from the central plains area to address this threat.

I would have to say that the USA may be using Canada as a buffer and counts on us to detect anything that may be coming south to strike at the American heartland.

There have also been a few minor international incidents, with American warships cruising in Canada's arctic waters without asking permission or even notifying Ottawa about their entry.

I think in general, our countries respect each other and have a better relationship than many neighbouring countries in the world.

On no American site will you find the information that during the The Iran Hostage Crisis 1979-80 it was Canadians who went in and rescued the American hostages. Just like American made movies about the second world war, Canadians played no part in that either.

This is why Americans grow up totally ignorant of the relationship between Canadians and Americans. They can never admit the Canadians have saved their butts more than a few times. Quietly and efficiently.

Their President thanked our PM but it wasnt on any American news channels at the time. Its in the archives in the Canadian Parliamentary records.

And if that information isnt available to people in the US how are they supposed to know about it?

Their military and Government maintain a cone of silence around reciprocal protection between the US and Canada so they can brainwash their citizens into believing the US is totally alone in this world without help from anyone. Does God need anyone's help? What an insult to even suggest it, the US is all powerful, all mighty -

Thats gratitude from you. But we know who we are, what we do and we dont need to be thanked for it, when we need to rescue the Americans from some fix they got into, we will do it again, because that is what neighbours do for each other.

Clearly Big Nasty is one of the people kept in total ignorance as to what role Canada has played in US protection. Even if he is told things like the truth about the The Iran Hostage Crisis or something as benign as basketball is Canadian he is too brain washed to accept anything other than the American doctrine.

On the Avenue of Flags in the US there is a Canadian flag flying - gee I wonder why thats there?

We Cdns have to remember they dont have the same Freedom of Information we have in Canada.

At the time being we only have 64,000 full time army personnel in Canada, The USA has approximately 1 Million. But we do not require protection from the USA. Canada has some of the best Trained Military in the world and we can defend ourselves!

No canadian would rely on America for safety. Canada is the safest country in the world.

Only Americans believe that. Nobody in the world wants to attack us so we really don't rely on anyone for protection.

t j
no. canada doesn't need protection since it doesn't have any enemy! it's too nice a country. everybody loves a canuck.

why Canada is so strange ?
if we have some democracy and human right and low cost of living ? which so expensive all came from USA thank you from american help this wild caveman Canadian have some civilization

mina
no! why would you think that??

Billy Butthead
If the USA wasn't there Jamaica would have taken us over.

biffnasty
