Does Vancouver I means Vancouver Island in the map of Canada?

See the link at http://en.18dao.net/images/3/3e/Map-Canada.jpg bottom left hand corner. I am a foreigner seeking to further my study in Canada. I knew nothing about Canada. So please help me out. Thanks.

Your link does not load but if you look at google waps you will see that Vancouver Island and the City of Vancouver are very close together. When Canadians refer to 'Vancouver' it usually mean the city.

On your Map
Vancouver I refers to the large island off the mainland coast.
The name "Vancouver I" touches this big island.

And It's a beautiful place to visit, Especially the west coast.

Vancouver Island (named for the British explorer Capt. George Vancouver) and not to be confused with either the cities Vancouver, British Columbia or Vancouver, Oregon, USA is the largest island on the pacific coast of the Americas (North or South). It is access able via ferry (approx 95 minutes from the mainland) or by airplane. The island is about 400 km long and at it's widest point, about 100 km wide. The population is around 700,000 people. Greater Victoria on the southern tip of the island (also the provincial capital of British Columbia) is the island's largest city with a population of approx 375,000 people. Primary industries are forestry, fishing, tourism and government although forestry and fishing are hurting these days. The University of Victoria has an annual enrolment of approximately 10,000 students. Additionally Malaspina University in Nanaimo (about 100 km north of Victoria) recently began a degree granting curriculum.

Hope all this helps.

Yes, Vancouver I. on your map does mean Vancouver Island. Island was abbreviated because the whole name would have gone on to the mainland and be confusing to some people. Your map can be enlarged to the actual size by clicking on the symbol that comes up in the lower right when you put your cursor over the map.

Your link is coming in very blurry - but yes, it should be Vancouver Island. There is Vancouver the city which is on the mainland, then Vancouver Island just across the straight.

Yes, Vancouver Island is off the west coast of British Columbia with the capital city of Victoria being at the southern end of the Island. The city of Vancouver is on the BC mainland but because of the similarity of names Vancouver and Vancouver Island always seem to get confused.

Vancouver Island is the large island just off the southern coast of BC. On this island (at the south end) is the major city for the island "Victoria" which is also the capital city of the Province of BC.
Vancouver City is a city located at the mouth of the Fraser River on the mainland but is not on vancouver island.

yes it means Vancouver Island. this is a lovely island. Victoria is especially nice. Vancouver and Banff are, in my opinion, two of the best places in Canada.
