Does anybody know if I need a Passport to cross the US/Canadian border?

Do I need a passport or will a Birth Certificate and US Driver's license be okay?

At the moment, a Birth Certificate and US Driver's License are enough to cross the US/Canadian border.

This is going to change in the next few years, when they will make it mandatory for everyone to have a passport.

yes

I believe the Drivers license and Birth Certificate or enough for crossing Canadian border. Call city hall first though before you go to make sure we're giving you the correct answer.

Yes, BC and Drivers license are ok, you won't need a pass port til July 2009, according to the last news report I heard, but you may need a third piece of ID as well, OHIP card works especially a new one with a pic.

I'm from a border city it's in the news here all the time

racinfast14
unless they have changed it because 911 you don't need a passport. it's been i while sense I've been there but i think all i needed was a drivers license.

You should get a passport. Please keep in mind that while European border crossings have lifted border stops in order for passengers to cross over into another country where a DIFFERENT language is spoken, over here border stops are getting stricter to cross over into another country where the SAME language is spoken ... Go figure, and do I see a QUESTION coming forth?

As of right now a drivers license and birth certificate are exactly what you need to enter our neighbors in Mexico or Canada by either land, air, or sea.

On Jan 1 2007 you will need a passport to enter Mexico & Canada by air and sea......but not to drive there by (land)!

On Jan 1 2008 you will need a passport to leave the U.S. no matter where you are going outside our country and no matter how you are traveling to get there.

Good Luck & Have a Great Time!

yup

just curious
No need for passport yet. just proof of residency in U.S. such as birth certificate, social security card and drivers license

keepingitreal
Currently, you only need a drivers license and birth certificate to Mexico or Canada if you are over age 16. By late December, you will need a passport to enter Mexico, Canada and anywhere else outside the U.S.

All you need is driver's license and birth certificate. I've traveled to Canada from Maine several times and as of yet no passport is needed.
