No. Public school is free, but college or university are not free.
The health care is subsidized (and generously so) but is not totally free. For example, we pay part of the cost of prescribed drugs, but doctors and hospitals are free, unless you are getting non-essential surgery (cosmetic surgery) or insist on having a private room instead of using a ward.
Canada is a large, welcoming country, and a great place for anyone with a little entrepreneurial gumption to get a start.

I live in the U.S. but lived in 4 Canadian provinces and went to university there as well. I would agree with all the statements of those above me, but I would say whichever is the best place to live all depends on your career and your own situation. I've experienced education and healthcare in both countries and I have had no bad experiences in either country, however, overall higher education in Canada is more affordable and accessible, though it is getting more expensive than it used to be.
While taxes in Canada, especially in some provinces, can be high, I've found that in the U.S. many taxes are hidden like in California where you pay very high vehicle registration fees...so its as if you just get taxed in a different way.
To make a broad generalization, I'd say that in the U.S. its more of a survival of the fittest, as in everyone for themselves, while in Canada there is more of a feeling of social responsibility, especially when it comes to healthcare.

Health Care is NOT free. Our taxes pay for it. Plus some provinces have monthly fees based on your income. I'm not sure what province someone was saying has subsidized meds but it's not Alberta. I pay full price for everything.

College is NOT free for anyone.

Every Province has a different healthcare system - some services are subsidized fully, some partially, some not at all. Hospital stays, surgery and emergency care are "free" though our taxes and employers pay for this.

Aboriginal students get "free" post-secondary education. Some non-aboriginal students can qualify for low-interest student loans, bursaries and grants, but it certainly isn't free.

My daughter in university has done some research, and discovered she pays much less for her education in Canada than comparable courses in universities in the USA.

Hello Morghan,
I'm from the Vancouver, Canada area, and I can insure you that Health Care and College is far from free.

Everyone pays for Health Care, just may have a lower rate: it goes by your yearly income. Also for Colleges some have free course; GED or the Grade 12 equivalence, speaking English or others unlisted.
There is lots to often, and we are very multicultural, and have so many wonderful places to explore. Come and see; you won't be sorry. Drinking age is 18 & 19 years of age, in some of our provinces.

Here is the scoop, taxes pay for everything NOTHING is free (except for those that don't pay taxes). Collage and University education IS subsidised by the Provincial and Federal governments. Medicare there are some things that aren't covered by the plans and you will have to pay for them if you can if you can't then the government pays.

Take it from me I would much rather live here in Canada than in the US. In the past two months I've use a LOT of the medical system and it has only cost me for the drugs I've taken and parking at a hospital. I had to wait at the emerg at the hospital because I wasn't bleeding and it was a Friday night in Toronto but I was put in the examining room within 30 minutes.

I am a Canadian and I can tell you health care is not 'free'.

There are many rules and regulations and it varies by province. I posted a link below for Ontario health care info.

And, having seen three kids through post-secondary education, I can sincerely attest that college and university are not free. It also depends on what school you plan to go to.

I included a link to University of Toronto for foreign students. Colleges tend to be less expensive. It all depends on what you plan to study.

I hope this helps. There are some pictures of the area west of Toronto if you want to see what it's like at
