There is no such thing as a Canadian accent. The accents vary according to the region in which a Canadian lives. Maritimers do not pronounce words the same way as Ontarians do, and Ontarians do not speak the same way as people in BC. Inside each province there are also regional accents. i don't know where you learned to speak, but you are only right about "water" as /wader/ - middle /t/ tends to be pronounced as /d/ by most speakers of English. Most people say "tomorrow" like /t'more-o/. Forgive the simplistic transcriptions - I can't find the proper phonetic symbols on my computer.This has nothing to do with accent, but more with how quickly one speaks. So if all speakers of English spoke more slowly, they would pronounce the words correctly.
Incidentally, accenting inthe US and UK are also regional phenomena. It happens to be the same story for most languages. |
