OHIP, the Ontario Hospital Insurance Plan, DOES provide coverage for emergency services for an Ontario resident, visiting the US. What is covered, is listed here: http://www.health.gov.on.ca/english/public/pub/ohip/travel.html

I don't know where you're from, but my friend used his card at an emergency room in the US and they paid for it. He's from Montreal. I assume all provinces have a stipulation for emergencies, but I know Quebec does.

Cherry_Blossom
In Ontario OHIP covers a maximum of $400 per day. being an MRI can cost upwards of $4000 and you are on the hook for the difference, I would say no. Even the official website for Ontario suggests supplementary insurance.

Just the basics and it generally depends on how long you are gone for. (medical coverage is provincial so your question is too general to answer)

From the link:
Q: Is travel health insurance important?

A: Canadians who plan to travel outside Canada - even on a day trip to the United States - should purchase the best supplemental medical insurance they can afford to avoid incurring large expenses such as in the case of hospitalization or medical treatment. A medical evacuation, for example, could run in excess of $50,000. Canadian provincial medical insurance rarely covers the full cost and does not pay up front. For more information on your provincial health plan, contact your provincial health authority.

If I'm understanding you correctly, in Ontario we call it OHIP, each province has it's own. If this is the case the answer is no. You have to purchase additional coverage, usually Blue Cross.

you need to get travel insurance, my workplace provides it for me as benefit. It's not covered by OHIP.

No absolutely not. Most large companies in Canada provide travel insurance as a benefit, but if you don't have insurance, you need to buy it before going down to the US.

It is really expensive if you pay out of your own pocket. Make sure if you are hospitalized down there that you get an air ambulance the hell out of there ASAP. Canadian doctors rock!
